Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Albatros Makadi in 2019 – I mean, another all-inclusive in Hurghada, right? But this place actually surprised me. The moment you walk into that lobby, there’s this immediate sense that they’ve put real thought into the details. It’s not just the typical marble-and-gold Egyptian resort aesthetic (though there’s some of that). What struck me was how the staff genuinely seemed to know what they were doing – check-in was smooth even during peak season in March, and the guy at reception actually remembered my name by day two.

The location in Makadi Bay is honestly perfect if you want that Red Sea experience without the chaos of downtown Hurghada. You’re about 25 minutes south of the main city, which means you get the gorgeous coral reefs right offshore but skip the aggressive street vendors and traffic noise. I spent most mornings on their private beach – and when I say private, I mean it actually feels private, not like you’re sardined in with three other hotels’ guests. The snorkeling right off their jetty is ridiculous; I saw more fish in one morning than I did during a whole week in Sharm el-Sheikh last year. The reef drops off pretty dramatically maybe 50 meters out, so you get that proper wall-diving experience without needing a boat.

What really sets this place apart though is how they handle the all-inclusive part. Look, I’ve done the Hurghada resort circuit, and usually “24-hour all-inclusive” means watered-down drinks and mystery meat after 10 PM. Not here. Their main restaurant actually rotates themes throughout the week – Tuesday’s Asian night had proper pad thai, not the usual Egyptian interpretation of “Chinese food.” The pool bar makes decent cocktails (ask for Ahmed if he’s still there, guy makes a killer mojito), and room service runs until 2 AM with actual food, not just sandwiches. I was dealing with some brutal jet lag and ordered pasta at midnight – it showed up hot and honestly better than what I’d had at the main dinner service.

The rooms themselves are solid – nothing revolutionary, but the AC works properly (crucial in summer), bathrooms are updated, and you get that direct Red Sea view from most of the higher floors. Pro tip: request something above the third floor on the sea-facing side. The ground floor rooms near the pool area can get pretty loud during the evening entertainment, which runs until about 11 PM most nights. It’s not terrible, but if you’re trying to get kids to sleep early, you’ll want some distance.

My only real complaint is that the WiFi gets spotty in the evenings when everyone’s back from the beach – typical resort problem, but worth mentioning if you need to stay connected for work. Also, if you’re planning to explore Hurghada proper, taxi rides can add up since you’re not exactly walking distance to anything off the resort. But honestly? With snorkeling this good and food that doesn’t make you miss home, I barely left the property. That 9.5 rating isn’t just marketing fluff – this place delivers on what it promises, which is rarer than you’d think in this part of Egypt.

  Everything about our stay was amazing.
  Food: delicious, good quality, good varieties
  Coffee: exceptionally delicious, which is not something common in the hotels in general, but in Albatros Makadi the coffee was very good for someone as addicted to coffee as i am.
  Staff: all staff were so friendly and helpful.

  I had a wonderful stay at Albatros Makadi From the moment I arrived, the staff was warm, professional, and attentive. The check-in the reception team Mr.karim tammam process was smooth and quick, and I was pleasantly surprised by how clean and well-maintained everything was.
