Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Amwaj Beach Club Abu Soma – it’s about 45 minutes south of Hurghada proper, and you know how these resort strips can be hit or miss. But this place actually surprised me in the best way. The drive down the Hurghada-Safaga road gives you this perfect preview of what’s coming: endless Red Sea coastline that gets more dramatic as you leave the city chaos behind. When you finally roll into Soma Bay, there’s this immediate sense that you’ve found something a bit more refined than the usual tourist madness.

What really gets me about Amwaj is how they’ve managed to feel both polished and relaxed at the same time. The beachfront here is genuinely gorgeous – and I mean that soft, pale sand that doesn’t burn your feet kind of gorgeous, not the rocky stretches you sometimes get stuck with along this coast. The water drops off pretty quickly, which is perfect if you’re actually into swimming rather than just wading around taking selfies. I spent most mornings out there before the wind picks up around noon (classic Red Sea timing), and honestly, the snorkeling right off the beach is better than I expected. You don’t have to go on some expensive boat trip to see decent coral and fish – just grab your mask and walk in.

The rooms are solid four-star territory, nothing fancy but everything works like it should. Air conditioning that actually cools the place down, decent water pressure, and – this matters more than you’d think – blackout curtains that let you sleep past sunrise if you’ve been up late at the bar. Speaking of which, the evening scene here strikes a nice balance. It’s lively enough that you won’t be bored, but it’s not one of those places where you can’t have a conversation over the music. The staff genuinely seems to enjoy working there, which you notice in little things like remembering your drink order or actually being helpful when you need restaurant recommendations in the area.

Location-wise, you’re far enough from Hurghada’s intensity to breathe, but close enough that a taxi ride isn’t going to cost you a fortune if you want to explore the markets or grab dinner somewhere different. The whole Soma Bay development has this planned community feel – everything’s clean and well-maintained, though it can feel a bit artificial if you’re someone who prefers more authentic local flavor. But honestly, sometimes you just want to relax without worrying about haggling for everything or dealing with pushy vendors every time you step outside. That 8.4 rating makes sense to me – it’s the kind of place that delivers exactly what it promises without any major surprises, good or bad.

  We chose this one following the comments and we were right. Although it is not what a European would consider as "luxury resort" at all, it has everything you may need. The quality of the food was very good and it was varied, the variety of drinks is acceptable if you are not looking for something strange. The staff was very nice and the private beach is perfect to relax.
  
  What could be improved: If I have to mention something, maybe the fact that the pool staff was not very nice and that they close way too early.

  It was a wonderful trip for my family and me and a wonderful hotel as well … starting from the staff specially reception guy domadious , room service, food service and everyone there adding to that the hotel is very comfortable and they have cozy atmosphere.

  Likes: Great food and professional staff at the reception. I had a positive interaction with the following people (Ayman and Domadious at the reception, Emad the shisha man, Hamdy and Simba from the animation team). Room cleanliness is spot on.
  
  Dislikes: safety concerns, staff was digging into some structure by the beach and left broken pieces all over the place with no warning signs.
  Gym bench screws are loose and can lead to serious injuries during exercises. Also one lady couldn’t use the trade mill due to lack of power sockets.
  I saw the lifeguard by the pool sleeping once.
  The floor tiles by the closest toilet to the beach behind the scuba diving building are broken and easy to trip over and cause injury.
  One of the barmen discriminated me, he refused to give me an alcoholic drink as I didn’t have a wrist band while I was very polite with him, and I agree with his decision, a minute after my wife (from a different country than mine) went to grab a drink without the wristband and he gave her without questions which was absolutely shocking! I went to face him about it, he starting coming up with the wrong excuses and ended up apologising.
  During one of the kids mini disco show, the music was played on a mobile phone and not on the DJ kit which is a shame. The DJ man was on the phone with someone and cursing in the worst possible way near the kids, completely unprofessional and unacceptable!
  
  I hope the hotel’s management take this information on board and work through this constructive feedback to improve further.

  The place is great! The front desk staff, the kitchen staff and the room cleaning staff are amazing! The marina is the highlight of the hotel, offering a great view of the mountains at a distance. The night time shows could be better… the lunch could also be better (specifically the pasta station, could do gnocchi or ravioli somedays). The breakfast is great (omelette and pain au chocolat are the best) and for dinner don’t miss the italian and indian restaurants (must do reservations, free of charge). The room is very, very comfortable!
