Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Ancient Sands Golf Resort, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a golf resort in El Gouna. I mean, you’re in the middle of the Red Sea coast, and here’s this sprawling place that actually manages to make desert landscaping look lush and inviting. The whole setup sits right on the lagoon side of El Gouna, which honestly gives you the best of both worlds – you’ve got that calm, turquoise water that’s perfect for paddleboarding or just floating around, plus you’re close enough to the main town that you can easily walk over to Abu Tig Marina when you want some nightlife.
What really got my attention though was how they’ve designed the place around the golf course without making it feel like everything revolves around golf. You know what I mean? Even if you couldn’t care less about chipping and putting, the layout works. The residences are spread out enough that you’re not hearing your neighbors’ conversations through the walls, and the pools – there are several scattered around – never felt crowded even when I was there during peak season in March. The main pool area has this great setup where you can actually swim up to the bar, which sounds gimmicky but is surprisingly nice when you’re trying to beat that afternoon heat. Staff wise, they really know their stuff about El Gouna – I got better restaurant recommendations from the concierge than from most travel blogs, and they helped sort out a fishing trip that ended up being one of the highlights of my stay.
The rooms themselves are solid – not the most cutting-edge design you’ll ever see, but they’re spacious and the air conditioning actually works (which, trust me, matters a lot here in summer). What I really appreciated was the kitchen setup in the residences; it’s fully equipped, which means you can grab fresh fish from the market in town and cook it yourself if you want a break from hotel food. The resort’s restaurants are decent enough, though I’d say the Italian place on-site is better than the international buffet spot. Parking’s never an issue, check-in was smooth, and the whole place stays pretty quiet after 10 PM, which was perfect for me. The 8.2 rating feels about right – it’s definitely a quality spot that delivers on what it promises, just don’t expect it to blow your mind. If you’re looking for a comfortable base to explore El Gouna and the Red Sea area, especially if you like having space to spread out, Ancient Sands really works.

The personal in the reception were the best of all. Helpfull, polite, restrained and competent.
The hotel's and the restaurant's products were the absolute top of this resort and the breakfast as well. Also the service levet in the hotel was top class.
They were well-designed with the clientele in mind and the rooms were very tudy and clean all the time.
The food product offer varied daily, also for breakfast, and the personal service at breakfast was almost commendable. Nothing was missing from the breakfast – we do belive, that everybody found from the buffet what they liked to have.

What could be improved: This is probably a cultural issue, but the male "restaurant manager" clearly had not become a manager, at least not with his customer service skills. He was a bit arrogant, his expression was unclear, and during every meal he would intrude on the table to flatter and ask self-evident questions about the service process.
His copy type person was in a shorter form in the bar downstairs – an overly flattering person who didn't seem to enjoy his work. Bossing, yes.
It was confusing for us to watch when, in an all-inclusive place, especially German customers packed huge amount snacks on paper napkins, even though food was available in abundance all day long.
But as we ealier wrote, this is probably a purely cultural difference of opinion.Refaat from United Kingdom – 21 February 2025 (9/10)
