You know what? I’ve stayed in a lot of places around the Red Sea, but this little apartment in Tawila really caught me off guard. The Butterfly – honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the name – sits right in the heart of El Gouna’s Tawila district, and I mean that literally. You’re on T24, which locals will tell you is one of the quieter residential streets, but you’re still close enough to hear the gentle hum of the lagoons at night. The apartment itself is on the ground floor (B-0-1 if you’re looking for it), which actually turned out to be perfect since I didn’t have to wrestle my suitcase up any stairs after that long flight into Hurghada.

What struck me first was how… lived-in it felt, in the best possible way. The owner clearly knows what travelers actually need – there’s proper lighting for reading, the AC doesn’t sound like a freight train, and the kitchen has those little essentials you never think about until you need them. I spent most mornings on the small terrace with coffee, watching the neighborhood wake up slowly. The building’s pretty typical for Tawila – that warm sandstone color that blends perfectly with the desert landscape – but inside, everything feels fresh and well-maintained. You’re about a ten-minute walk from the main marina area where all the restaurants and shops are, though honestly, I found myself taking the longer route along the lagoon most days because the water views are just stunning. The whole Tawila area is designed around these interconnected waterways, so you’re never really far from that peaceful sound of gentle waves lapping against the walkways.

Here’s the thing that really impressed me – it’s got a 9.8 rating, and after staying there, I totally get why. The details matter here. Check-in was smooth (the property manager actually met me at the apartment, which saved me from wandering around with my phone trying to figure out the entrance), the WiFi actually works throughout the space, and the shower has proper water pressure. Small stuff, but when you’re dealing with Egyptian plumbing, you learn to appreciate these things. El Gouna can get pretty busy during peak season – December through March especially – but Tawila stays relatively calm compared to the downtown area near Abu Tig Marina. I was there in February and never felt crowded, even when walking to dinner. The apartment gives you that perfect balance of being close enough to everything but far enough away that you can actually relax. Plus, if you’re planning to explore beyond El Gouna – maybe day trips to Luxor or diving excursions – the location makes it easy to get picked up by tour operators without having to trek to a main hotel lobby.
