Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard about BYTK – La Galería sitting right on Joubal Lagoon, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a 3-star place in El Gouna. But you know what? Sometimes the best discoveries come when you’re not overthinking things, and this little gem absolutely proved that point.

The location is actually brilliant – you’re right on the lagoon which means you get those postcard-worthy water views without the Red Sea crowds that can get pretty intense during peak season. El Gouna itself is this quirky planned resort town (some people call it Egypt’s Venice, though that’s a bit of a stretch), but what I love about staying at La Galería is that you’re close enough to the marina area to grab dinner or hit the bars, but far enough from the main strip that you’re not dealing with the late-night party noise. The check-in was surprisingly smooth – no drama, no endless paperwork, just friendly staff who actually seemed to care about making sure we were sorted.

What really got me though was the attention to detail you don’t usually see at this price point. The rooms have this gallery vibe (hence the name, I’m guessing) with local artwork that’s actually decent – not the generic hotel prints you usually get. You can hear the water lapping against the shore from most rooms, which is honestly one of those simple pleasures that just makes you feel like you’re properly on vacation. The whole place has maybe 30 rooms max, so it never feels overcrowded, and during the quieter months you might have the pool area almost to yourself in the mornings. I mean, the facilities aren’t going to blow your mind – it’s not one of those massive resort complexes with seventeen restaurants – but everything works, everything’s clean, and the pool area overlooks the lagoon in a way that makes you want to just park yourself there with a book and lose track of time. The staff genuinely seem to know their guests’ names after a day or two, which is refreshing. Only minor gripe is that the WiFi can be a bit patchy in some rooms (classic Egypt), but honestly, isn’t that kind of the point of a lagoon-side getaway? If you’re looking for that sweet spot between authentic local experience and comfortable amenities without breaking the bank, this place gets it right.
