You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Dar Om Ali in El Gouna – honestly, the name sounds more like someone’s grandmother’s house than a hotel. But this little 4-star gem tucked away in the Sabina district completely caught me off guard. El Gouna itself is this quirky planned resort town north of Hurghada that feels like someone tried to recreate a Mediterranean village in the Egyptian desert, and somehow it actually works. The hotel sits in one of those quiet residential pockets where you’re close enough to everything but far enough from the main tourist chaos that you can actually hear yourself think.

What really struck me about Dar Om Ali is how it manages to feel authentically Egyptian without all the overly ornate tourist trap nonsense you see everywhere else along the Red Sea coast. The staff – I mean, they genuinely seem to care about whether you’re having a good time, not just going through the motions. Check-in was smooth, no haggling over room upgrades or awkward small talk, just efficient and friendly. The rooms themselves are clean and comfortable, nothing revolutionary but everything works properly (which honestly can’t be said for every place in this price range around here). Air conditioning that actually cools the room, hot water that’s consistently hot, and – this might sound silly but it matters – good water pressure in the shower after a day spent covered in Red Sea salt.

The location is actually perfect if you want to explore El Gouna properly. You’re walking distance from the marina area where all the restaurants and nightlife happen, but you can also easily grab one of those little tuk-tuks if you don’t feel like the stroll. The hotel doesn’t have its own beach, but honestly, the public beaches here are gorgeous and you’re not paying those ridiculous resort fees. Plus, being in Sabina means you’re surrounded by actual cafes and shops that locals use, not just tourist-priced hotel restaurants. I spent most mornings grabbing coffee from this little place around the corner that served it strong enough to wake the dead. The 9.2 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, it’s just consistently doing everything right. If you’re the type who wants to experience El Gouna without feeling like you’re trapped in a resort bubble, this is your spot.

  The closeness to My nieces apartment in Sabina was brilliant.

  Nice apartment with great pool and lagoon view from 2nd floor balcony. Very quiet, everything available and in good working condition what is needed for a comfortable stay. Extraordinary and amazing furnishing and decoration. Downtown easily reachable in a 5 min. drive or 20 min. walk. Very friendly and efficient communication, welcome, check-in and check-out.
