You know what struck me first about Desert Pearl Studio Retreat? It’s actually tucked away on this quiet stretch of Bowling Centre Street in Kawthar District – and I mean quiet in the best possible way. While everyone’s scrambling for beachfront spots that cost twice as much, this little 3-star gem sits just far enough back from the Red Sea chaos to let you actually sleep at night, but close enough that you’re not spending half your vacation budget on taxis to get anywhere decent.

The whole place has this understated vibe that honestly works better than some of the flashier hotels I’ve stayed at in Hurghada. The studios are compact but thoughtfully laid out – whoever designed these actually seems to understand that travelers need counter space for their toiletries and somewhere to hang wet swimwear that isn’t the bathroom door. The air conditioning works properly (crucial in Egypt, trust me), and the Wi-Fi is solid enough for video calls home, though it does get a bit spotty during peak evening hours when everyone’s uploading their snorkeling photos. Parking was surprisingly easy – there’s actually space for rental cars, which isn’t something you can take for granted in this part of town.

What I really appreciated was how the staff genuinely knew the area. The guy at reception pointed me toward this fantastic little seafood place about ten minutes away that I never would’ve found otherwise, and he was spot-on about timing the trip to avoid the tour group rushes at the popular dive sites. The Kawthar District location means you’re close to the newer part of Hurghada without the tourist trap pricing – there’s a decent supermarket within walking distance, and the local coffee shops actually serve coffee that doesn’t taste like it’s been sitting in a pot since morning. Sure, it’s not beachfront luxury, but honestly? After spending days baking in the sun and getting salt in everything, coming back to a clean, cool, properly functioning room felt like exactly what I needed. The 7-out-of-10 rating seems about right – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it delivers on the basics really well and gives you a genuine feel for how people actually live in this part of Egypt rather than just the resort bubble experience.

  What could be improved: El apartamento no era el anunciado, nos cambió a otro porque el nuestro no iba a estar disponible hasta las 16 horas… Estaba asqueroso, no había toallas ni papel higiénico, las sábanas estaban sucias, los utensilios de cocina escasos y sucios, suelo roto, deteriorado.
