You know what struck me first about Horizon? It’s actually tucked away in this quiet residential area – Makramiya Villa 2 – which honestly threw me off at first because I was expecting something right on the main Hurghada strip. But here’s the thing: that location is actually brilliant. You’re about a 10-minute ride from all the marina chaos and dive shops, but when you come back at night, it’s properly quiet. No street vendors calling out at midnight, no constant traffic noise from Sheraton Road.

The place has this unpretentious vibe that I really appreciated. I mean, it’s a 3-star property so you’re not getting marble everywhere, but everything feels clean and well-maintained. The staff – and this is something you notice right away – they actually remember your name after day one. Ahmed at the front desk knows his stuff about the local dive sites (apparently he used to work for one of the PADI centers), and he’ll give you the real scoop on which operators to avoid. The rooms are comfortable enough – decent AC, hot water that’s actually hot, and surprisingly good WiFi considering how far you are from the main tourist zone. What I loved was the little balcony situation; you can sit out there in the evening with a coffee and actually hear birds instead of just car horns.

Here’s what really sold me on this place though – the breakfast setup is proper Egyptian style mixed with some tourist-friendly options. Fresh baladi bread every morning (they bake it somewhere nearby, you can smell it), real Egyptian cheese, not that processed stuff most hotels serve. And the coffee? Well, it’s not Italian espresso, but it’s strong Turkish coffee that’ll wake you up properly. The whole dining area opens up to this small garden area, and in the cooler months you can eat outside which is lovely. Parking’s never an issue either – something that’ll save you headaches if you decide to rent a car to explore south toward Safaga or north to El Gouna. The only minor thing I’d mention is that you’ll want to grab a taxi or arrange transport for evening restaurant trips since there’s not much within walking distance food-wise. But honestly, that’s part of the charm – you’re staying where actual residents live, not in some tourist bubble. The whole experience feels more authentic, and at the end of the day, isn’t that what makes a trip memorable?
