You know what surprised me most about Hurghada Makadi Heights? It’s actually one of those places that punches above its weight class. I mean, it’s technically a 3-star hotel, but when you’re sitting on that terrace watching the Red Sea stretch out endlessly, star ratings feel pretty irrelevant.

The location is honestly perfect if you want that Makadi Bay experience without the massive resort crowds. It sits right on the Hurghada-Safaga Road, which sounds busy but actually works in your favor – you’re close enough to everything but far enough from the main tourist chaos in central Hurghada. The drive to the airport takes about 25 minutes (I timed it), and there’s this little local market about ten minutes walk down the road where you can grab fresh fruit and those amazing Egyptian dates for half what the hotel charges. The staff there will probably try to practice their English with you, which is honestly pretty charming.

What really got me was how the place feels during different times of day. Mornings are absolutely magical – the sun hits the water just right, and you can hear the call to prayer echoing softly from the nearby village. It’s one of those moments that reminds you why you travel in the first place. The pool area gets lively around 10 AM when families start appearing, but if you’re an early riser like me, you’ll have it mostly to yourself. The rooms are… well, they’re clean and functional rather than Instagram-worthy, but honestly, who spends time in their room in a place like this? The air conditioning works (crucial in summer), the shower has decent pressure, and the beds are comfortable enough. I did notice some minor wear around the edges – a few scuff marks here and there, bathroom fixtures that have seen better days – but nothing that actually affected my stay.

The restaurant situation is interesting. Breakfast is pretty standard international fare, but here’s a tip: ask them to make you some ful medames (they usually have it but don’t always put it out). The dinner buffet rotates themes throughout the week, and Thursday’s Egyptian night is actually worth staying in for. The whole place transforms with traditional music and local dishes that taste nothing like the usual tourist versions.

What I really appreciated was how the staff treated guests. There’s this genuine warmth that you don’t always get at bigger chains – they remember your name, ask about your day trips, and actually seem to care about whether you’re enjoying yourself. Ahmed at the front desk gave me the best directions to the Giftun Islands, complete with a hand-drawn map that was more helpful than anything I found online.

The 7.5 rating makes total sense to me. It’s not trying to be a luxury resort, and it doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not. Instead, it offers solid value, a great location, and that authentic Egyptian hospitality that makes you feel like you’re experiencing the real Red Sea, not just another tourist bubble. If you’re looking for marble bathrooms and 24-hour room service, look elsewhere. But if you want a genuine base for exploring Makadi Bay without breaking the bank, this place delivers exactly what it promises.

  Very friendly and kind owners, gave us a tour for the compound and its facilities once we arrived. They also showed us the way to the city and introduced us to shops and places we should visit. The apartment is very nicely designed, there are 2 rooms with king size bedrooms and an attic. The compound has a mall with a pizza shop and a Bestway supermarket.
  
  What could be improved: – Security is too strict at the gates, you might not be able to enter unless authorized by the owner if the security does not recognize you.
  – Pool security did not allow us to enter without owner's permission.
  – Every shop in the compound closes by midnight except the Bestway supermarket (open all the time)
  
  Owner was available via phone whenever we needed help or permission so security was not a problem.
