You know what? I’ve stayed at plenty of Red Sea resorts, but Iberotel Makadi Beach actually gets it right in ways that surprised me. The thing is, Makadi Bay sits about 30 minutes south of Hurghada’s chaos – and I mean that in the best possible way. You’re far enough from the airport noise and the crowded marina area, but close enough that you can still grab a taxi into town if you want to hit the souks or try that seafood place everyone talks about near the old harbor.

The resort itself has this lived-in elegance that’s hard to fake. Sure, it’s got five stars, but it doesn’t feel stuffy or overly polished like some places do. The pools cascade down toward the beach in these terraced levels, and honestly, the middle pool is where you want to camp out – great views without the kids’ pool chaos below or the adults-only pretension up top. The beach here is actually one of Makadi Bay’s better stretches. The sand’s imported (like most Red Sea beaches), but they maintain it well, and the house reef is close enough for decent snorkeling right off the shore. I mean, you’re not getting Ras Mohammed-level coral, but for a resort reef? Pretty solid.

What really won me over was the attention to details that actually matter when you’re traveling. The air conditioning works properly – no small feat in Egyptian summer heat. Check-in was smooth even during peak season, and the staff genuinely knows the area well enough to give you real recommendations, not just tourist trap suggestions. The restaurants rotate their menus enough that you won’t get bored if you’re staying a week or more, and the main buffet actually has decent Egyptian dishes alongside the international stuff (try the koshari – it’s surprisingly authentic for a resort). The dive center partners with local operators who know the good sites, and they’ll take you to Giftun Island or some of the better northern reefs if you ask. Parking’s easy if you rent a car, which I’d recommend for at least a day trip down to Luxor or up to El Gouna. The road to Safaga runs right past the resort, so you’re perfectly positioned for Red Sea exploration. Honestly, with a 9.3 rating, you might expect everything to be perfect, but what I appreciated was that the imperfections were minor and real – like the occasional slow elevator or the poolside Wi-Fi being spotty – rather than those weird resort problems that make you wonder if anyone actually stays at these places.

  Everything is more than perfect. All staff doing their best to make you happy. Special thanks to Mahomoud at the reception for upgrading our room.
  Dining was a wonderful experience. Chef Mohamed Taha is the best.
  All the staff in restaurants and bars show high hospitality level.

  What could be improved: Message to the management: engage a mystery shopper agency to analyze your service procedures, there are a lot of backlogs on almost every position or step. Train your staff on procedures. Literally on every step personnel is either slow, or doesn’t understand, you wait for a service and then 4 people are providing you with the same feature after waiting for a while.

  Really great staff! The food was great – the Chef Mohamed Taha is excellent. Very good place if you want to snorkel. We also liked the evening entertainment. All in all very good experience.

  Very helpful and great staff, very tasty and varied food, probably one of the best I've ever tasted. Unfortunately, it was very windy, so we couldn't enjoy the sea. But you can't fight nature.

  I love the staff, atmosphere, food, they let you feel that you are home and yet everything is at your service.

  3 restaurants on the beach, each one is better than the other with different themes everyday.
