Hotel Description
So I stumbled across Ikea flat 5 when I was hunting for something affordable but decent in Hurghada, and honestly? It turned out to be one of those pleasant surprises you don’t expect from a 3-star place. The name threw me off at first – I mean, who calls their hotel “Ikea flat” – but once you’re there, it actually makes sense. The whole setup feels more like staying in someone’s well-organized apartment than a typical hotel, which I kind of loved.
The location is pretty clever if you know Hurghada at all. It’s tucked behind Hotel Al Arosa on that busy strip along the Red Sea, so you’re literally a two-minute walk from the water but far enough back that you don’t get the constant street noise that drives you crazy at night. Building 167 isn’t much to look at from the outside – just another concrete block in that part of town – but step inside and there’s this surprisingly clean, modern vibe going on. The guy at reception was super helpful when I checked in around 3 PM on a Thursday, spoke decent English, and actually gave me useful tips about avoiding the tourist traps for diving gear (apparently there’s a local shop three blocks inland that charges half what the beachfront places do).
What really impressed me was how they’ve maximized the space without making it feel cramped. The rooms have this efficient, almost Scandinavian layout – hence the Ikea reference, I guess – with everything you need but nothing extra taking up space. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, and you know what? The air conditioning actually worked properly, which is more than I can say for some pricier places I’ve stayed in Egypt. The bathroom was small but spotless, though the water pressure could be better in the evening when everyone’s showering. There’s this little balcony that overlooks the street, and if you lean just right, you can catch a glimpse of the Red Sea between the buildings. I spent quite a few mornings out there with coffee, watching the organized chaos of Hurghada wake up – street vendors setting up, dive boats heading out, the occasional camel trudging by with confused-looking tourists.
The whole area gets pretty lively at night, but in a good way mostly. You’re close enough to walk to decent restaurants without needing a taxi, and there’s a little grocery store right around the corner that stays open late. I will say the WiFi gets a bit spotty during peak hours, and if you’re on the street-facing side, you’ll hear some traffic noise, but nothing earplugs can’t handle. For the price point and that 7.6 rating, it’s honestly a solid choice if you want to be near the action without paying resort prices. Just don’t expect luxury – think clean, comfortable, and refreshingly unpretentious.

The room was very comfortable and it has a balcony as well. It is close to the main road.
The owner is also close so easily available.
It has a kitchen with a fridge so if you want to cook or just store your food you can do so.
What could be improved: It was difficult to find the place but I misunderstood the owner and didn't call before we started the ride with the taxi, I tought only should when we arrived.
Google maps is not good at the area, so definitely call him to be able to explain to the driver where you want to go.Ulrik from Ecuador – 8 January 2024 (8/10)

What could be improved: 1) The description said there was a private bathroom, it turned out to be shared. Both toilet and bathroom are shared.
2) The doors in the rooms are very creaky, you will wake up every time one of the neighbors will leave or enter.
3) There is an unpleasant odor in the apartment!
4) We asked the owner to bring us a blanket to cover ourselves at night, he did not do it. In general, the owner is very unfriendly!
Asked for more money in Egyptian pounds when we decided to stay another night!!!
5) There is not enough cutlery.
6) There was no air conditioning or it did not work, there was only one fan.Soliman from France – 8 February 2025 (8/10)
