Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw JAZ Soma Beach on the map, I thought “here we go, another cookie-cutter resort.” But driving down that stretch of the Hurghada Road past the 49km marker, something just felt different. The landscape opens up as you approach Soma Bay, and you realize you’re not dealing with the usual cramped beachfront chaos that defines so much of the Red Sea coast.

What actually got me was how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between having enough going on and not feeling like you’re trapped in a holiday camp. The beach here – and I mean this – is genuinely spectacular. It’s not just marketing fluff. The coral reef sits close enough to shore that you can snorkel right off the beach (honestly, some of the best house reef I’ve encountered along this coast), but the sandy areas are wide enough that you’re not dodging snorkelers if you just want to sprawl out with a book. The water stays pretty calm thanks to how Soma Bay curves – it’s sort of protected from the worst of the wind that can make other parts of Hurghada a bit choppy.

Here’s what I really appreciated: the staff actually seem to know what they’re doing. Check-in was smooth, none of that “we need to see your passport seventeen times” nonsense, and the front desk folks clearly knew the area well enough to give proper recommendations. You know what surprised me? The rooms are bigger than you’d expect from the photos, and they’ve clearly put some thought into the layout – there’s actually space to unpack without feeling like you’re playing Tetris with your luggage. The balconies face different directions depending on where you are, so if you’re picky about sunrise versus sunset views, mention it when you book.

The food situation is better than it has any right to be for a 4-star property. I mean, it’s still hotel buffet food, but they rotate things enough that you won’t get bored if you’re staying more than a few days. The local fish dishes are particularly good – they clearly have solid connections with Hurghada’s fishing boats. Pro tip: the poolside grill actually does proper grilled fish if you ask nicely, way better than the standard tourist fare.

What really sealed the deal for me was the vibe in the evening. It gets lively enough around the pool area and beach bar, but it’s not the kind of place where you’ll be dealing with drunk twenty-somethings screaming until 2 AM. Families, couples, some solo travelers – it’s a good mix. The beach stays pretty quiet after sunset, which is perfect if you’re into those ridiculous Red Sea stargazing opportunities.

The only real downside? If you’re planning to explore Hurghada proper regularly, you’re looking at about a 45-minute drive each way, and taxis aren’t exactly cheap. But honestly, with everything Soma Bay offers and that 9.5 rating they’ve earned, you might find you don’t want to leave much anyway.

  The service was amazing, and the staff was willing to help and accommodate us and any request we may have. They truly went above and beyond. The beach is beautiful and well taken care of, the whole hotel is also very clean. The rooms are also kept tidy and up-to-date, and the decor in the resort is beautiful and quaint. Christine, from guest relations, was so kind and actively checked up on us to make sure that everything was perfect with our stay daily.

  Amazing service & hospitality, the team has been of great support since we arrived. The beach is small but nice and the diversity of restaurants is great. I would like to thank Christine from reception/hospitality for her great support & caring As well as the head chef for showing extra care and cooking special meals & drinks for us when I got sick in my stomach.
  
  What could be improved: Bathroom was very old & I got trapped in the bathroom on the first day once we checked in. It could help to renovate those. Also the beach is a bit small so if it can be extended would make a lot of difference.

  All the staff show great interest and concern for the comfort of the guests and their cooperation with them. The sea trips are very beautiful. The food is wonderful. The accommodation is wonderful. The beach is very charming and sandy. It will not be the last time, God willing.
