Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of Red Sea resorts, but Kempinski Soma Bay hits different – and I mean that in the best way possible. When you first pull up to this place, you’re about an hour south of Hurghada proper, which honestly works in your favor because you’re away from all the chaos of the main tourist strip. The drive from the airport takes you through some pretty barren desert landscape, then suddenly you’re at this gleaming resort that feels like someone dropped a piece of modern luxury right onto the coastline.

What really got me was how they’ve managed to make a massive resort feel… well, not massive. The layout is smart – everything’s spread out enough that you’re not constantly bumping into other guests, but you’re never more than a few minutes’ walk from wherever you need to be. The beach here is actually spectacular, and I’m not just saying that because I’m still recovering from my vacation high. The water is that ridiculous turquoise color that makes you think someone’s cranked up the saturation on your photos, except it really looks like that. The reef is right there too – you can literally swim out from the beach and be snorkeling in about ten minutes. No need for those crowded boat trips that half the other resorts push on you.

The rooms are what you’d expect from Kempinski, which is to say they’re pretty damn nice. I had a sea view room and honestly, I spent way too much time just sitting on the balcony with my morning coffee. The beds are those kinds that make you question your mattress choices back home, and the bathrooms are spacious enough that you don’t feel like you’re getting ready in an airplane lavatory. One thing that surprised me – the service staff actually remembered my name after the first day, which doesn’t happen at a lot of places this size. The pool area can get busy around mid-morning (you know how it is with the sun lounger wars), but if you’re up early or prefer late afternoon, you’ll have your pick of spots.

Food-wise, they’ve got several restaurants and honestly, the variety kept me interested for the whole week. The main buffet is solid – nothing groundbreaking, but they nail the basics and there’s always something good happening at the live cooking stations. The Italian place is actually run by someone who knows what they’re doing, which isn’t always a given at resort restaurants. Fair warning though – if you’re planning to eat dinner at the specialty restaurants, book early because they fill up fast, especially during peak season.

The only real downside? Well, you’re pretty isolated out here, so if you’re the type who likes to explore local towns and markets, you’ll need to plan some excursions. But honestly, that isolation is also part of the appeal – you can actually disconnect and just enjoy being at the beach without feeling like you’re missing out on something happening down the road. For what it is – a luxurious beach escape with solid service and a genuinely beautiful setting – it delivers exactly what it promises.

  Location is premium, one of the best beaches in the Red Sea and I’ve been to many.
  
  Staff are very very friendly and helpful, and service is very quick and swift.
  
  Food is in the best 20% of hotels there, I’ve had better but still v. good.
  
  What could be improved: Some doors that access the beach from building 7 open only from inside, so you have to walk a long walk to go back to your room from the beach.
  
  The Soma Bay shuttle bus is slow and busy, maybe the hotel should get some shuttles for its own guests.
  
  I think the hotel should invest more in getting premium coffee in its outlets, coffee was mediocre.

  The hotel is so so pretty and well-managed. Very polite and helpful staff, when I was ill the hotel kept on checking on me and offered wheel-chair services and sick people menu for free. Many many thanks! Food is reasonably priced for the quality and size. We enjoyed every moment there and we are coming back later this year
