You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Lilyland Beach Resort on Sahl Hashish Road – honestly, the name sounds a bit cheesy, doesn’t it? But this place completely surprised me. The moment you walk through those doors, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually thought about what families need when they’re trying to juggle beach time with keeping the kids happy.

The waterpark here is legit – not just some sad kiddie pool with a slide thrown in as an afterthought. I mean, my teenagers were actually excited about it, which is saying something. The slides are proper height, the wave pool timing is perfect (they run it every hour for about 15 minutes), and there’s enough variety that you’re not bored after day one. What really got me though was how they’ve managed the whole resort layout. The rooms closest to the beach are quieter if you’re looking to actually sleep, while the waterpark action stays contained to its own area. Smart design, really.

The beach access is where this place shines compared to other Hurghada spots. Sahl Hashish has that gorgeous coral reef just a short swim out – and I’m talking about snorkeling that rivals what you’d pay serious money for on day trips. The hotel provides decent masks and fins (though bring your own if you’re picky), and the beach staff actually know their stuff about current conditions and where to spot the best fish. Fair warning though – the reef drops off pretty quickly, so keep an eye on less confident swimmers. The beach itself is that perfect Red Sea combination of soft sand meeting crystal-clear water, and because Sahl Hashish is a bit removed from central Hurghada’s cruise ship crowds, you’re not fighting for space.

Actually, let me mention the food situation because it matters more than people think. The buffet rotates themes throughout the week, and they do a particularly good job with fresh seafood – makes sense given the location. The coffee is surprisingly good for a resort (I’m picky about this), and they keep the breakfast going until a reasonable hour, which is clutch when you’re on vacation and not trying to set alarms. Room service was reliable the few times we used it, though honestly, with the dining options and that beach calling, we barely spent time in the room anyway.

The staff here seem to genuinely enjoy their work, which creates this relaxed atmosphere that’s hard to fake. Check-in was smooth, they helped arrange a couple of excursions without the usual high-pressure sales pitch, and housekeeping was thorough without being intrusive. The rooms themselves are clean and comfortable – nothing fancy, but everything works and the AC keeps up with the heat, which is what you actually care about in Egypt.

If you’re looking for that perfect balance of relaxation and activity, especially with kids in tow, this place delivers. The waterpark keeps everyone entertained, the beach offers genuine Red Sea magic, and the whole operation runs smoothly without feeling corporate or sterile. It’s the kind of place where you can actually unwind without constantly managing logistics – and honestly, isn’t that what vacation should be about?
