Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of places around the Red Sea, but this townhouse in Tawila actually surprised me – and honestly, that 9.7 rating isn’t just inflated booking site nonsense. When you first pull up to the Tawila compound (it’s on the island part of El Gouna, which means you’re crossing that little bridge), the whole setup feels more like a friend’s beach house than typical hotel accommodation. The three-bedroom layout is genuinely spacious, not that cramped “sleeps 6” situation where you’re practically sharing a bunk bed. I mean, each room actually has proper storage space and windows that open to catch those evening breezes off the lagoon.
What really gets me about this place is how they’ve nailed the balance between resort amenities and actual livability. You know what I’m talking about – most vacation rentals either feel sterile or like someone’s cluttered apartment. This one sits right in that sweet spot where you can spread out your stuff, cook breakfast if you want (the kitchen’s properly equipped, not just a mini-fridge and prayer), but still walk two minutes to the pool when you can’t be bothered. The lagoon access is the real winner though. While everyone else is fighting for beach chairs at the main El Gouna spots, you’re literally stepping into calm, clear water that’s perfect for kids or if you just want to float around with a book. The water stays shallow for quite a stretch, which is brilliant if you’re traveling with family or honestly just want to wade in with your morning coffee.
The location thing is tricky to explain unless you know El Gouna’s weird geography – it’s basically a planned resort town built on islands and peninsulas. Tawila sits far enough from the main Abu Tig Marina chaos that you’re not dealing with late-night restaurant noise, but close enough that a quick taxi ride gets you to decent restaurants and that little grocery store near the mosque. Actually, grab groceries in town rather than the overpriced marina shops – locals shop at the place near the gas station, and they stock proper Egyptian coffee and fresh bread. The compound itself has this quiet, residential feel during the day, then comes alive around sunset when people emerge for the pool. Parking’s never an issue, which sounds boring but trust me, matters when you’re hauling beach gear and groceries. The whole setup just works in a way that lets you actually relax instead of constantly figuring out logistics. Three stars feels conservative – it’s not trying to be a five-star resort, but it delivers exactly what it promises without the usual vacation rental surprises.

We had an incredible stay in El Gouna—one of our best experiences yet. The townhouse is in a prime location with a breathtaking view of the lagoon, which was swimmable and added an extra layer of privacy and fun. Every room offered stunning views, and the entire place was spotless. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a peaceful and luxurious getaway.

Fantastic townhouse in a great location in Gouna. The house was very comfortable and home-like, easy to relax in straight from the start. Good comfortable beds! Tawila lake is at the end of a nice garden and is a lovely backdrop, we enjoyed swimming in its crystal clear salt-water, as well as in the pool which is a great one for smaller kids. Excellent, informative and generous communications from the host Hany and the manager Mohsen.
