Honestly, when I first pulled up to the Sunside apartments in Aldau Heights, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place – but you know what, this little gem actually surprised me. The building sits up in the newer part of Hurghada, away from the hustle of the main tourist strip, which means you get that nice residential feel without being completely cut off from everything. I mean, you’re still close enough to grab a taxi to the marina or hit up those beachfront restaurants, but far enough that you won’t hear party boats at 2 AM.

What really got me was how these apartment-style rooms are set up – they’ve got this lived-in comfort that regular hotel rooms just don’t have. The kitchenette actually works (I made coffee every morning, and the little fridge kept my water properly cold in that Egyptian heat), and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without living out of a suitcase. The balconies are where it’s at though – most units face west, so you get these incredible sunset views over the Red Sea hills. I’d sit out there in the evenings with a beer from the corner shop downstairs, watching the call to prayer echo across the neighborhood. The air conditioning works hard during the day, but honestly, those cross-breezes in the evening make it comfortable enough to keep the doors open.

The staff here really knows their stuff too – Ahmed at the front desk grew up in Hurghada and actually gave me better restaurant recommendations than my guidebook did. He steered me toward this little seafood place about ten minutes away where locals eat, instead of the touristy spots near the hotels. Parking’s never an issue (which is huge if you rent a car), and they’re pretty flexible about late check-ins if your flight gets delayed. The neighborhood itself has that authentic Egyptian residential vibe – you’ll hear kids playing in the courtyard below, smell someone grilling fish on their balcony, and there’s a small mosque nearby where the evening call to prayer sounds beautiful rather than intrusive. Sure, it’s not going to blow you away with fancy amenities or marble lobbies, but if you want a comfortable base that feels more like staying in someone’s well-appointed apartment than a generic hotel room, this place delivers. Plus, honestly, the value is solid – you’re getting way more space and character than you’d find at those big resort chains for the same price.
