You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Makadi on the Hurghada-Safaga road – honestly, three-star places can be pretty hit or miss in this stretch of Egypt. But this little gem actually surprised me in the best way possible.

The thing about Makadi is that it sits in this sweet spot between Hurghada’s tourist chaos and Safaga’s more laid-back vibe. You’re about 20 minutes south of the main Hurghada action, which means you skip most of the crowds but can still grab a taxi into town when you want that buzzy resort strip experience. The road itself is decent (well, decent for Egypt anyway), and there’s actually proper parking – something you don’t always get around here. What really got me though was how the staff seemed to genuinely care about getting things right. Check-in was smooth, no weird hidden fees or that pushy excursion sales pitch you usually get hit with immediately. The lobby has this comfortable, lived-in feel rather than trying too hard to be fancy, and you can actually hear yourself think, unlike some of the massive resort complexes up the coast.

The rooms are clean and functional – I mean, you’re not getting marble bathrooms or anything, but everything works properly and the AC doesn’t sound like a helicopter landing on your roof. The beds are actually comfortable (shocking, I know), and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without living out of a suitcase. But here’s what really makes this place work: the location gives you options. You’re close enough to the Red Sea for easy diving trips – the dive shops know this area well and will pick you up without the usual runaround. If you want to explore beyond the tourist bubble, you’re positioned perfectly for day trips to the Eastern Desert or even down to Marsa Alam if you’re feeling adventurous. The local restaurants along this part of the coast serve some seriously good seafood too, and they’re way more reasonably priced than anything you’ll find in central Hurghada. Plus, the evening breeze off the water actually reaches you here – trust me, that matters when it’s 40 degrees during the day. Look, Makadi isn’t trying to be something it’s not, and that’s exactly why it works so well for travelers who want a genuine base rather than a sanitized resort experience.

  Its was decorated beautifully, and it was very easy to find. Soon as you come in, it was on the main street. It also was walking distance to multiple restaurants and cafes. About a 3-5min walk.
