Honestly, when I first pulled up to Mangroovy Residence, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect – the name alone had me curious. But you know what? This little apartment-style spot in El Gouna turned out to be one of those pleasant surprises that makes you appreciate the quieter side of Egypt’s Red Sea coast. It’s tucked away in this planned resort town that feels almost like someone dropped a Mediterranean village into the desert, which sounds weird but actually works really well.

The thing about El Gouna is that it’s not your typical Egyptian beach destination – I mean, it’s got this whole engineered lagoon system and golf courses, which is pretty different from the chaos of Hurghada proper (thank goodness, because Hurghada can be… a lot). Mangroovy sits right in the middle of all that, and the apartment setup is perfect if you’re planning to stay more than just a couple nights. You get actual space to spread out, a kitchenette that’s surprisingly functional, and – this is key – you’re close enough to walk to the marina area without needing to deal with taxis every time you want dinner. The building itself has that modern Egyptian resort vibe, clean lines and earth tones, nothing too fancy but definitely comfortable.

What really sold me on the place was how quiet it gets at night. During the day you’ll hear some activity from the other units and maybe some construction (there’s always construction happening somewhere in El Gouna), but once evening hits, it’s surprisingly peaceful. The staff at check-in were actually helpful too, which – let’s be real – isn’t always a given at three-star places. They knew the area well enough to point me toward the better restaurants and away from the tourist traps. And parking? No drama, which is more than I can say for a lot of places along this coast. The pool area isn’t huge but it’s clean and usually not crowded, probably because most people head straight to the beach or the lagoons. Speaking of which, you’re maybe a ten-minute walk from some really nice swimming spots that aren’t packed with day-trippers from Hurghada. The whole El Gouna thing is definitely artificial, but they did a good job with it – the lagoons are actually pleasant to swim in, and the little bridges and walkways make it feel almost… Dutch? If that makes sense. Anyway, for the price point and the rating it’s got, Mangroovy delivers exactly what you’d hope for: a comfortable base that doesn’t break the bank and puts you in a spot where you can actually relax without feeling like you’re missing out on anything important.
