Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to the Mövenpick at Soma Bay – I mean, it’s about 49 kilometers south of Hurghada on that sometimes dusty Safaga road, and you start wondering if you’re driving to nowhere. But then you hit this perfectly manicured entrance, and suddenly you’re in this completely different world where everything’s landscaped and calm, with the Red Sea stretching endlessly to your right.

The waterpark is really what sets this place apart from the other resorts dotting the coast here. While most five-stars in the area give you a couple of pools and call it a day, Mövenpick actually built something that’ll keep your kids (and let’s be honest, you) busy for hours. The slides aren’t just for show – they’re properly thrilling, and the lazy river actually goes somewhere instead of just being a tiny circle. What I really appreciated was how they designed it so you can still see the ocean from most of the waterpark, which sounds like a small thing but makes a huge difference when you’re trying to decide between the pool and the beach. Speaking of the beach, it’s one of those protected Red Sea spots where the snorkeling is legitimately good right off the shore – no boat trips required, just grab some gear and wade in.

The rooms are solid Mövenpick standard, which means they’re comfortable without being flashy, and the air conditioning actually works (you’d be surprised how often that’s not a given in this heat). I stayed in one of the sea-view rooms on the fourth floor, and honestly, waking up to that view of Soma Bay never got old. The spa is where they really shine though – they’ve got this whole traditional hammam setup that feels authentic, not like some tourist version. Pro tip: book your spa treatments early in your stay because word gets around fast among guests. The 7.7 rating makes sense to me – it’s a really good resort that does what it promises, but it’s not going to blow your mind with cutting-edge luxury. What it will do is give you that perfect Red Sea holiday where you can snorkel in the morning, hit the waterpark with the family after lunch, and then watch the sunset with a cold Stella from the beach bar. The staff genuinely seems to care, which goes a long way when you’re dealing with the inevitable minor issues that pop up anywhere. Just remember to bring reef-safe sunscreen – the coral here is still pretty healthy, and you’ll want to keep it that way.

  We had an amazing stay! The beach was stunning, and the outdoor pool was a great spot to relax. There were plenty of activities to keep us entertained. What truly made our stay stand out was the exceptional staff. Shady was particularly helpful and went above and beyond to ensure our needs were met. We also appreciated the hotel's flexibility with check-in and check-out times, which made our travel schedule much easier to manage.   The stuff in the reception is really friendly. They try to facilitate and help in everything, especially "Yehia." he was a huge help.

  animation team are trained to look after white Europeans here & at most resorts in Egypt or they have some inferiority complex towards Europeans – they prioritise them always – which is fine by me – carry on – I love to generously tip the cleaners waiters and staff who show respect- animation team can get lost
