You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Old Palace Resort in Sahl Hasheesh – honestly, the name made me think it might be one of those places trying too hard to sound fancy. But walking through those doors, I actually felt like I’d stumbled into something pretty special. The lobby has this authentic palatial feel without being over the top about it, and the staff greeted me with that genuine Egyptian warmth you get when you venture outside the main Hurghada strip.

The thing about Sahl Hasheesh is that it’s sort of this planned resort community about 20 minutes south of central Hurghada, and while some people think it feels artificial, I actually loved how quiet and polished everything was. The Old Palace sits right on this gorgeous stretch of private beach where the water is crystal clear – I mean, clearer than what you’ll find at the crowded public beaches closer to town. The snorkeling right off the resort’s pier is honestly incredible; you don’t need to book those expensive boat trips because the coral reef starts literally 50 meters from shore. I spent hours just floating around watching the fish, and the water temperature was perfect even in March when the air got a bit chilly in the evenings.

What really sold me on this place was the attention to detail that you notice after you’ve been there a few days. The restaurants rotate their menus more than most all-inclusives (and trust me, I’ve been to way too many), the pool area never felt crowded even during peak season, and – this might sound small – but they actually have decent coffee. I’m talking proper espresso, not that watery stuff you usually get at resort breakfast buffets. The spa treatments are reasonably priced too, which is rare for a five-star property. Check-in was smooth, parking is free and plentiful, and the rooms are spacious with those marble bathrooms that feel luxurious without being gaudy. One tiny complaint: the WiFi can be spotty in some areas, but honestly, isn’t that kind of the point of a beach vacation? The whole Sahl Hasheesh bay area stays pretty calm year-round, so if you’re traveling with kids or you’re not a strong swimmer, it’s ideal. Plus, you’re close enough to Hurghada’s airport that transfers are quick, but far enough from the chaos of Sheraton Road that you can actually relax. That 8.8 rating makes total sense – it’s the kind of place that delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises.

  Neat, clean and exceptional, the staff members are super friendly and humble helpful and cooperative all time.

  The restaurant was very sepcial and organized with the close supervision of cheerful Mr. AHMED MAHMOUD and ghe whole team who was very helpful.

  What could be improved: The food all tastes the same and is catered to Europeans which is a shame. Also I had to always ask for drinks as the waiters would walk past me.

  Great staff, smiling and friendly. Food is various and really good. We enjoyed snorkeling with Blue Ocean.
  
  What could be improved: The mattress is too old. I had pain in my back every night as mattress quality is not good. Too many sales people on the beach. Starters at the buffet are still frozen sometimes. You should also improve the cocktails, they are not so good.

  Loved my extended stay here special thanks to Mr Mahmoud (pool bar) and Mr M. Magoully (restaurant/grilled meat chef) for the impeccable service. Very flexible staff at reception too accommodating extended stay in the same room. And thanks to the luggage area staff for the support to the bus station.
