Honestly, when I first pulled up to Ollystays Fanadir Marina on El Gouna 1 Road, I wasn’t expecting much – I mean, the name’s a bit of a mouthful, right? But you know what caught me right away? The smell of jasmine mixed with that salty Red Sea breeze, and this surprisingly quiet vibe despite being right in the heart of El Gouna’s marina district. The whole place has this laid-back luxury thing going on that actually works. Check-in was refreshingly smooth (no endless paperwork or waiting around), and the staff genuinely seemed to know the area – they pointed me toward this little coffee spot near the marina that I never would’ve found otherwise.

The room itself – well, it’s technically a one-bedroom apartment – hits that sweet spot between spacious and cozy. The heated jacuzzi is the real star here, and I’m not usually one for hotel hot tubs (let’s be honest, they’re often sketchy). This one’s different though, private on your own terrace with views over the marina where you can watch the feluccas heading out for sunset trips. The kitchen’s actually functional too, which matters if you’re staying more than a couple nights. I ended up grabbing fresh fish from the local market near the lagoon – there’s this vendor who sets up around 7 AM who has the best catch, and cooking it yourself beats the tourist restaurant prices every time. The apartment stays surprisingly cool during the day without cranking the AC, probably because of how it’s positioned relative to the water.

What really sold me on this place though is how it sits in El Gouna’s layout. You’re walking distance from the marina’s restaurants and that buzzy nightlife scene, but far enough back that you’re not dealing with music until 2 AM (learned that lesson at another hotel closer to the main strip). The beach is maybe a 10-minute stroll, and honestly, El Gouna’s beaches are some of the cleanest along this stretch of coast – the water’s this incredible turquoise that looks almost fake in photos. Parking’s straightforward too, which sounds boring but matters when you’re lugging dive gear or planning day trips to Hurghada proper. I actually ended up extending my stay an extra two nights, which I never do – there’s something about sitting in that jacuzzi after a day of kitesurfing or wandering through the Nubian Village that just works. The 8.5 rating makes sense; it’s not trying to be the Four Seasons, but it nails what it is: a genuinely comfortable base for exploring one of Egypt’s most well-planned resort towns without feeling like you’re stuck in a resort bubble.
