Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Al Saraya Sahl Hasheesh – the name’s a bit of a mouthful and the address looked pretty generic on paper. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are the ones that don’t oversell themselves. This place sits right in the heart of Sahl Hasheesh, which if you’re not familiar with the area, is actually one of the nicer developments south of Hurghada proper. It’s got that planned community feel, but in a good way – everything’s clean, the roads are decent, and you’re not dealing with the chaos of downtown Hurghada traffic.

The apartment I stayed in had this pool view that actually delivered on the promise, which honestly surprised me since “pool view” can mean so many different things depending on who’s doing the describing. From the balcony, you’re looking out over this decent-sized pool area that doesn’t get too crowded – I mean, it’s busy during the peak afternoon hours when families are out, but early morning and evening it’s pretty peaceful. The apartment itself feels more like someone’s actual home than a sterile hotel room, which I really appreciated. The kitchen’s functional if you want to grab groceries from the Carrefour that’s maybe a 10-minute drive away, and the bedroom’s got good blackout curtains (crucial if you’re trying to sleep off jet lag or recover from a late night in Hurghada). What struck me most was how quiet it gets at night – you’d think being around a pool area would mean constant noise, but the layout’s smart enough that you’re not hearing every conversation and splash.

The thing about Sahl Hasheesh is it feels like a different world from the main Hurghada strip, and that’s either going to be exactly what you want or completely wrong for your trip. If you’re looking for that authentic Egyptian hustle and bustle, the souks and street food and general organized chaos, you’ll need to make the drive north. But if you want somewhere you can actually relax, where the WiFi works consistently and you can walk around without constant hassling from vendors – well, this hits that sweet spot perfectly. The beach access through the resort area is legitimately nice, and the water’s that incredible Red Sea blue that makes you understand why people keep coming back to this part of Egypt. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I was planning to do some diving (the dive shops in Sahl Hasheesh are solid and less touristy than the main Hurghada ones) or just wanted a base for exploring the area without feeling like I was living in a resort bubble the whole time.
