You know what struck me first about Pickalbatros Citadel Resort? It’s not just another beachfront hotel slapped together for tourists – this place actually feels like someone put thought into it. I mean, you’re in Sahl Hasheesh, which honestly is still relatively quiet compared to the chaos of central Hurghada, and this resort takes full advantage of that location. The whole property has this sort of fortress-like architecture (hence the name, I guess) but it’s done in a way that feels grand without being intimidating. When you’re walking around the grounds, especially in the early morning before the day heats up, there’s this almost meditative quality to the place – the way the buildings frame the Red Sea views, the sound of water features mixed with distant waves.

What really gets me is how they’ve managed the beach situation here. Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of Red Sea resorts where you’re fighting for a decent spot or dealing with rocky, uncomfortable shoreline. But Sahl Hasheesh Bay – and this resort’s stretch of it – is genuinely one of the better beaches along this coast. The sand is actually sand, not that coarse stuff you sometimes get, and the coral reef is close enough for decent snorkeling but far enough that you’re not worried about cutting yourself every time you wade in. The hotel’s dive center knows their stuff too, which matters if you’re serious about getting underwater. I actually ended up chatting with one of their dive masters who’d been working these reefs for years – the kind of local knowledge you can’t fake.

Here’s the thing though – and this is important if you’re planning a trip – the resort definitely comes alive during peak season (November through March), but I’d argue it’s almost better during shoulder months. Sure, it’s hotter, but you get this more relaxed vibe, the staff has more time to actually talk with you, and honestly, the rates are better. The restaurants spread out their service more too, so you’re not dealing with that rushed buffet feeling. Speaking of food, they’ve got this Italian place on property that’s actually run by someone who knows what they’re doing – I mean, finding decent pasta in a resort setting is harder than it should be, but they nail it. The main restaurant gets busy around sunset (everyone wants those terrace tables overlooking the water), so either go early or embrace the wait with a drink from the bar. Check-in can be a bit slow during weekend arrivals since they get a lot of Cairo families, but once you’re settled, the whole experience just flows. It’s the kind of place where you actually don’t mind spending most of your time on property, which – let’s be honest – isn’t something I say about most hotels.

  Mohamed at the front desk was very helpful and helped me change my room to a room with a better view. The room was spacious, clean, had a great view, and aesthetically pleasing. There is a big variety of restaurants that offer different options for cuisines. The Asian restaurant was one of the best, the italian was good for lunch time, and the oriental was also amazing. The lagoon was amazing to swim in, but make sure you have your sea shoes and get your snorkelling gear because you will be swimming with fish around you! It was also a nice alternative to the beach since the sea was very high during my stay. During nighttime at the marina, you can also see some fish swimming around nearby. There were nice performances at the marina bar at night.
  
  What could be improved: A more variety of drinks and cocktails at the bars would have been better. We couldn't always locate an elevator, and I'm not sure if it's because there were no signs to say where they are or if it's because there isn't an abundance of them.

  We had a great experience in this hotel. Absolutely amazing view from the room and infinity swimming pool. The staff were nice and polite. Food was different every day. We had shrimps and beef, Turkey. Hardly recommend to go to this hotel.
