I mean, finding it the first time was a bit of an adventure – the building numbers aren’t exactly screaming at you from the street – but once you know where it is, you realize you’ve stumbled onto something good. The neighborhood has this authentic Egyptian residential vibe that most hotels try to recreate artificially, except here it’s just… real. You’ll hear the call to prayer drifting over in the mornings, catch whiffs of fresh bread from the local bakery down the block, and honestly, it feels like you’re staying somewhere that locals actually live rather than some sanitized tourist bubble.

The hotel itself punches way above its three-star rating – that 8.7 score isn’t just numbers, you can feel it the moment you walk in. The lobby’s got this clean, unpretentious design that doesn’t try too hard, and the staff genuinely seem to know what they’re doing (which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a given in this price range). What I really appreciated was how quiet the place stays, even when it’s full. The rooms are solid – nothing fancy, but the AC actually works, the hot water is reliable, and the beds are comfortable enough that you’re not tossing and turning all night. The building’s got good bones, you know? Thick walls that keep out street noise, and the whole place feels well-maintained without being obsessively polished. I actually ended up chatting with a few other guests who’d been coming back for years, which tells you something about the consistency.

Here’s the thing that really sold me on Porto Hill – it’s positioned perfectly for people who want to experience Hurghada without being trapped in resort-land. You’re a quick taxi ride to the marina and the main tourist strip, but you can also walk to local restaurants where you’ll be the only foreigner and the food costs a fraction of what you’d pay elsewhere. The hotel doesn’t have a pool or spa or any of those extras, but they make up for it by just being really good at the basics. Check-in was smooth, they helped arrange reliable airport transfers, and when I needed recommendations for diving operators, they actually knew which ones were worth your time versus which ones were tourist traps. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re getting insider knowledge rather than generic hotel concierge advice. If you’re looking for luxury amenities, this isn’t your spot, but if you want a clean, comfortable base with character in a neighborhood that feels authentic, Porto Hill delivers exactly what it promises.

  The apartment was spacious and nicely decorated. Staff was welcoming. It was great staying in an ordinary neighborhood in Hurghada away from the hectic tourist areas and this is perfect for anyone who is not keen on resort hotels. There was a nice family beach nearby, too and numerous cafes.
  
  What could be improved: I just hope the number of apartments like this stays limited to not drive up rent prices and push out locals.

  The apartment was great, the owner was very helpful. He picked us at 4 AM from the bus stop, gave us a lot of information about the property surrounding and available activities and helped us a lot with a few problems we faced during our stay

  We stayed for 5 nights in Mohamed's apartment, which was very clean and good value. Perfect location to greenish-blueish amazing beaches – just 2 minutes waling (from 50-100 pounds entrance) and affordable restaurants. Also very close to Bazar where you can find everything. The area is very quiet, with cheap supermarket and local restaurants where they don't push products on you. With very cheap Uber we reached more popular places in Hurghada but more expensive for restaurants and more crowded.
  Mohamed was very friendly and accommodated us with everything we wanted. He recommended some good places around the apartment which were handy to know, and he picked us from the bus station when we arrived later than expected because the bus was delayed!
  The apartment was equipped with everything, we even cooked some meals and washed some clothes. The hot water pressure was fine and non stop because we had a boiler. The apartment had a living room and a bedroom, and also a nice terrace with plants and small palm trees to relax in for coffee or drinks!

  It was a nice, quiet base to explore nearby beaches and within walking distance of the market.

  We enjoyed our stay here. It was very relaxed to have an appartment and the environment was authentic and quiet. Also it worked very well to communicate over whatsapp with the owner and he arranged a trip for us for diving and snorkeling.
