You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from a place called “Refreshed & Uplifted 2 BDR G Cribs” – honestly, the name sounds like it was cobbled together by someone trying too hard. But after spending a week there last spring, I get why this little spot in El Gouna has that crazy 9.4 rating. It’s one of those places that just works, even if it doesn’t look like much on paper.

The thing about El Gouna is that it’s not your typical Egyptian resort town – it’s more like someone took Venice and plopped it down next to the Red Sea, all canals and bridges and colorful buildings. G Cribs sits right in the middle of all that, maybe a five-minute walk from Abu Tig Marina where all the good restaurants are. I mean, you can literally hear the evening call to prayer echoing across the water from your balcony, which sounds touristy but actually becomes this really peaceful part of your day. The apartment itself is surprisingly spacious for a 3-star place – two proper bedrooms, not those weird hotel rooms where they just throw a curtain between beds and call it a suite. The kitchen’s actually functional too, which matters when you want to grab fresh fish from the market near the mosque and cook it yourself instead of paying resort prices every night.

What really sold me on the place was the little details that someone clearly thought about. Like, there’s decent water pressure in the shower (trust me, this is not a given in Egypt), and the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a helicopter landing on your roof. The balcony faces west, so you get these ridiculous sunsets over the lagoon – I spent way too many evenings out there with a Stella beer watching the kitesurfers pack up for the day. Parking’s easy too, which might not sound exciting but you’ll appreciate it when you’re hauling dive gear around. The only minor thing I’d mention is that the walls are a bit thin, so if you’re unlucky enough to get neighbors who think 2 AM is a great time for a phone call home, you’ll know about it. But honestly, most people staying here seem to be either diving enthusiasts or folks who actually want to experience Egypt rather than just sit by a pool, so it tends to be pretty chill. The whole G Cribs complex has this laid-back vibe that matches El Gouna perfectly – it’s not trying to be fancy, just comfortable and real. For the price point, especially compared to the big chain hotels down the coast in Hurghada proper, it’s actually a steal.
