Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Scandic Resort in Hurghada, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But sometimes you get those pleasant surprises that remind you why you can’t judge a book by its cover, you know? This little gem sits right in that sweet spot between the chaos of downtown Hurghada and the tourist bubble of the resort strips, which actually works in its favor.

What struck me first was how the staff genuinely seemed to care about getting things right. Check-in was smooth (no standing around for twenty minutes while they “find your reservation”), and the guy at the front desk actually knew the area well enough to give me solid recommendations beyond the usual tourist traps. The rooms are clean and comfortable – nothing fancy, but everything works, which honestly is more than I can say for some pricier places I’ve stayed. The AC keeps up with the desert heat, the shower has decent pressure, and the beds are firm enough that you won’t wake up feeling like you slept on a marshmallow.

Here’s the thing that really won me over though – the location is actually perfect if you want to experience real Egypt without completely sacrificing convenience. You’re close enough to walk to some local restaurants where you’ll pay Egyptian prices instead of tourist prices (there’s this little place about two blocks east that does incredible koshari), but you’re also just a quick taxi ride from the marina and the main hotel strip if you want that scene. The Red Sea is right there, obviously, and while the resort doesn’t have its own private beach, the public beaches nearby are less crowded and just as beautiful – plus you’ll meet actual locals, not just other tourists. I mean, isn’t that partly why you travel? The pool area gets some road noise during the day, but it dies down in the evening, and honestly the sound of the city kind of grows on you. Parking was never an issue when I had a rental car, which can’t be said for a lot of places in Hurghada. The breakfast is simple but fresh – good Egyptian bread, local cheese, fresh fruit that actually tastes like fruit. Nothing Instagram-worthy, but it’ll fuel you up for a day of exploring without making you feel sluggish. What really sealed the deal for me was how the place feels authentic without being rough around the edges. You get that genuine Egyptian hospitality without feeling like you’re staying in someone’s spare bedroom.
