Look, I’ll be straight with you – when I first pulled up to the Scandic Resort on Arabiya Street, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like just another Red Sea accommodation. But honestly? This place surprised me in the best way possible. The Mido Chalet sits right in this perfect spot next to Al Salam Hospital (which sounds weird but actually made me feel safer knowing medical help was literally next door), and you know what struck me first? How quiet it was despite being right in the heart of Hurghada’s action.

The thing about this place – and I mean this – is that it gets the basics absolutely right. Check-in was smooth, none of that endless waiting around that drives me crazy at some Egyptian hotels, and the staff actually remembered my name by day two. The chalet itself (unit A625 if you’re curious) has this lived-in comfort that feels more like staying at a well-maintained friend’s place than some sterile hotel room. The air conditioning works properly – trust me, in Hurghada’s heat, this isn’t a given – and there’s enough space to actually unpack your stuff without playing Tetris with your luggage. What really got me was the attention to small details: decent water pressure, outlets where you need them, and blackout curtains that actually block the morning sun when you want to sleep in after a late night exploring Hurghada’s nightlife.

Here’s what I loved most though – the location gives you options. You can walk to the corniche without breaking a sweat, but you’re also tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with constant street noise or tour groups gathering at 6 AM. The local area has this authentic Egyptian neighborhood feel; there’s a great little café about two blocks down where locals actually hang out (not just tourists), and the produce vendor on the corner sells the sweetest mangoes I’ve had in years. Parking was never an issue, which honestly shocked me given how chaotic Hurghada traffic can be. And while it’s a 3-star property, it punches way above its weight – I’ve stayed at pricier places along the Red Sea that felt more corporate and less welcoming. The only minor thing I’d mention is that the WiFi gets a bit spotty during peak evening hours when everyone’s online, but honestly, isn’t that kind of a blessing when you’re supposed to be on vacation anyway?
