You know what struck me first about Shams Prestige Abu Soma? The silence. I mean, you’re driving down that stretch of the Hurghada-Safaga road – about 9 kilometers out from the main Hurghada chaos – and suddenly there’s this oasis of calm that feels almost too good to be true. The adults-only thing isn’t just a marketing gimmick here; they actually mean it, and honestly, after dealing with poolside screaming matches at other Red Sea resorts, the peace hits different.

The location in Soma Bay is kind of genius, actually. You’re far enough from Hurghada’s tourist madness that you won’t get hawkers wandering onto the beach, but close enough that a taxi ride into town for some proper Egyptian street food won’t break the bank (though honestly, why would you leave?). The Red Sea here is ridiculously clear – I’m talking about that kind of blue that makes your Instagram followers think you’ve cranked up the saturation, except you haven’t. The house reef is decent too, nothing world-class but you’ll see some solid coral formations and the usual suspects: parrotfish, angelfish, maybe a turtle if you’re lucky.

What really sells this place though is how they’ve managed to nail that luxury vibe without feeling stuffy. The staff genuinely seems to remember your name after day two (not just because they’re reading your wristband), and the service has that Egyptian warmth that feels authentic rather than rehearsed. Check-in was smooth – no hour-long queues or room upgrade upselling. The restaurants actually rotate their menus, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many five-star places serve the same tired buffet every single night. I mean, the Italian restaurant does proper pasta, not that overcooked hotel nonsense, and their seafood is clearly coming in fresh from local boats.

The pools are where you’ll probably spend most of your time, and they’ve got the layout right – multiple options so you’re not fighting for space, with those infinity edges that make every sunset photo look like a postcard. The beach itself is sandy, well-maintained, and the water entry is gradual enough that you don’t need to be an Olympic swimmer to enjoy it. Fair warning though – it does get windy in the afternoons (this is the Red Sea after all), so morning swims are your best bet if you want glass-like conditions.

One thing I really appreciate is how they handle the whole “adults only” concept. It’s not some weird couples-only scene with cheesy entertainment – it’s just… peaceful. You can actually read a book by the pool without someone’s speaker blasting music, and the vibe stays relaxed rather than party-heavy. The spa is solid too, though book treatments early because word gets around fast in a smaller resort like this.

Look, with an 8.4 rating, you know there are some minor quirks – WiFi can be spotty in some rooms, and Egyptian plumbing has its own personality – but honestly, when you’re watching the sun set over the Red Sea with a proper cocktail in hand and not a single screaming child in earshot, those little things fade into background noise pretty quickly.

  Excellent breakfast, lunch and dinner. Due to the fact that the hotel is comparatively small to the neighbouring hotels, the restaurant had a great "restaurant" feeling that you simply cannot get at very large restaurants. The staff was extremely polite, helpful. As we also used the watersports facility (ION – Club; great equipment and facilities by itself – highly recommended) for Wing Foiling, the hotel was the perfect location for us. We can highly recommend the hotel !

  The varied food. Especially the mix of local and international cuisine. Room 1008 was perfectly located. Right next to the pool and 5m from the beach. Still very quiet as there is no annoying animation at the Prestige.
  
  What could be improved: The speed of the internet connection. Wifi connection is good, but the configured bandwidth was poor at 1.5Mbit/s. (the manager will take care of this problem).

  Bed was very comfortable (pillows were not, but nowhere at the Red Sea you will find good pillows), beautiful view, excellent restaurant with great service. The ION kite club very nearby and you can see the kites flying, this is beautiful and very convenient for kiters like me. Note that other guests were not kiters but rather elderly nice Germans. Very nice pool and beach. This is a nice, relaxing and quite place.
  
  What could be improved: Difficult to open the door with the magnetic card. For both rooms I visited the staff had this problem. Same for me, it was taking me at least 8 tries each time until the door would open. It may be a battery problem. Hope the hotel will fix that soon.

  Sehr ruhig, schöne Ambiente, freundliche Gäste.
  
  What could be improved: Es gab im Bad kein kaltes Wasser. Der Strand sollte öfters vom Personal gereinigt werden: es lagen Zigarettenkippen und sogar Glasscherben im Sand, darüber hinaus wurde Haufen Mühl angespült, wo keiner sich bemühte, diese wegzuräumen, außer einige Gäste.
