Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Shams Safaga Resort, I wasn’t expecting much. It’s about 8 kilometers down the Safaga Road from the main Hurghada hustle, which actually turns out to be perfect because you get that Red Sea access without all the tourist chaos. The resort sits right in the Soma Bay area, and you know what? The location is kind of genius. You’re far enough from the Hurghada madness that you can actually hear the waves at night, but close enough that a quick taxi ride gets you to the shops and restaurants if you need a change of scenery.

The place has this laid-back, slightly weathered charm that I actually prefer to those overly polished resorts that feel like shopping malls. Sure, it’s a 4-star property with a 7.8 rating, and honestly, that feels about right – it’s not trying to be something it’s not. The staff genuinely seems to care, which you notice in little things like how they remember your coffee order after day two, or the way the dive center guys actually take time to explain the local reef conditions instead of just rushing you onto a boat. Speaking of diving – and this is something you won’t find in the brochures – the house reef here is surprisingly decent. I mean, it’s not world-famous or anything, but there’s enough coral and fish life that you can do your morning dive right off the beach without feeling like you’re wasting your time.

The rooms are comfortable in that lived-in sort of way, and most have these little balconies where you can sit with your morning coffee and watch the kite surfers (Soma Bay is actually becoming quite the kite surfing spot, which I didn’t know before coming here). The pool area gets busy around mid-morning when families start claiming their spots, but if you’re an early riser like me, you can have the whole place to yourself for a good hour or two. Food is typical resort fare – not going to blow your mind, but the fresh fish dishes are solid, and they do this grilled halloumi thing that’s better than it has any right to be. One thing I appreciated was how quiet it gets after 10 PM – you’re not dealing with pool parties or loud music, which might disappoint some people but was perfect for me. The Wi-Fi actually works in most areas too, though it gets sketchy by the pool during peak hours when everyone’s trying to upload their underwater photos. If you’re looking for that sweet spot between accessible and secluded, with decent diving and a genuine Egyptian Red Sea vibe without the tourist trap feeling, this place delivers on that promise pretty well.

  There is a sandy beach with a house reef Infront. Good buffet food with a daily variety. The bars offer (alcoholic) drinks till midnight. Staff was very friendly, with good language skills and it was super clean. Our room was big with fridge and a balcony with seaview.

  The room was nice and comfortable, except weak water flow in bathroom. The Jacuzzi was exceptional, the beach is big and almost sandy..
