But here’s the thing that caught me off guard: those views are absolutely ridiculous. I mean, you’re basically staring out at both the hotel pool and El Gouna’s lagoon system, and honestly? Some mornings I’d just sit there with my coffee wondering how this place gets overlooked.

El Gouna itself is this quirky planned resort town that feels almost surreal – like someone dropped a Mediterranean village into the Red Sea coast. Shedwan sits right in the sweet spot where you can walk to the marina area (maybe 10 minutes if you’re not rushing), but you’re far enough from the main drag that you won’t hear people stumbling back from the bars at 2 AM. The lagoon view rooms – and trust me, splurge for one of these – give you this constantly changing water show. Sometimes it’s mirror-still and reflecting the desert mountains, other times there are kiteboarders zipping around like colorful chaos.

What really sold me on this place was how the staff actually remembered my name by day two, and not in that forced hospitality way. The pool area becomes this little community during the day – you’ve got German families, Egyptian couples from Cairo escaping the city, and the occasional digital nomad tapping away on a laptop. The pool itself isn’t huge, but it’s deep enough for actual swimming (thank god), and there’s this perfect spot in the late afternoon where the light hits the lagoon and everything turns golden. I spent way too many hours there, honestly. The breakfast is solid Egyptian hotel fare – nothing fancy, but the guy making fresh omelets actually asks how you like them instead of just plopping down the same thing for everyone. And you know what? Sometimes that’s exactly what you want – no pretense, just a decent place to reset while you’re exploring the Red Sea coast. If you’re looking for marble bathrooms and turndown service, keep scrolling. But if you want authentic Egyptian hospitality with views that punch way above the price point, this little spot delivers.
