Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about the Sheraton Soma Bay? It’s not just the fact that you’re literally on one of the Red Sea’s most pristine stretches of coastline – though that’s pretty spectacular – it’s how they’ve managed to create this resort that feels both luxurious and actually livable. I mean, some five-star places can feel like beautiful museums where you’re afraid to touch anything, but this one gets the balance right.

The location on the Hurghada-Safaga Road is honestly perfect if you want that resort bubble experience without being completely cut off from civilization. Soma Bay itself is this planned resort community about 45 minutes south of Hurghada airport, and while some people might worry about being “in the middle of nowhere,” it’s actually ideal – you get the stunning, undeveloped coastline without the chaos of Hurghada’s main strip. The drive from the airport gives you this nice transition from the busy port city to increasingly dramatic desert landscapes, then suddenly you’re at this turquoise bay that looks almost too perfect to be real.

What really sets this place apart (and I’ve stayed at quite a few Red Sea resorts) is how they’ve thought about the details that actually matter when you’re spending a week somewhere. The rooms – well, they’re spacious in a way that feels genuine, not just marketing speak. You can actually spread out your dive gear or shopping finds without playing Tetris with your luggage. The air conditioning works properly, which sounds basic but trust me, in July along this coast, it’s everything. And honestly, the housekeeping staff here seems to genuinely care about getting things right – I never had that awkward thing where you come back to find your room half-cleaned or your belongings mysteriously rearranged.

The resort sits on this gorgeous bay where the water stays calm most of the year thanks to the natural protection from the surrounding headlands. If you’re into water sports – and really, why else would you come to the Red Sea – the conditions here are consistently excellent. The wind picks up predictably in the afternoons, which the kitesurfers love, but the mornings are usually glass-calm and perfect for diving or just floating around. I actually preferred the snorkeling here to some of the more famous spots closer to Hurghada because you don’t have to deal with crowds of day-trippers.

What impressed me most was how the staff seemed to know their stuff about the local area. When I asked about diving sites, they didn’t just hand me a generic brochure – they actually knew which operators were reliable and which sites would be best given the current conditions and my experience level. That kind of local knowledge makes a huge difference when you’re trying to make the most of a week’s vacation. The 8.5 rating feels about right to me – it’s definitely a high-quality resort experience, though it’s not trying to be the most cutting-edge or avant-garde place you’ll ever stay. Sometimes that’s exactly what you want: a place that does the fundamentals really well and lets the incredible natural setting be the star of the show.

  • Ahmed from Egypt – 15 June 2025 (9/10)

We had an unforgettable family holiday at Sheraton Soma Bay Resort – a true gem on the Red Sea. From the moment we arrived, everything exceeded our expectations. The atmosphere was peaceful, the beach breathtaking, and the service simply outstanding.

A special thank you to the entire team for making our stay so enjoyable. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Ms. Mariam, the Front Office Manager, whose warm welcome and professionalism set the tone for our experience. Also, a big thank you to Ms. Taghreed, the Front Office In-Charge, for her kind support and attention to every detail throughout our stay.

You both made us feel truly valued, and your hospitality didn’t go unnoticed. Thanks again to the Sheraton Soma Bay family – we’ll definitely be coming back!

Staff perfect, champion. Service excellent. Beach wonderful.
    I will go back again.😃

  • Amer from Egypt – 10 June 2025 (9/10)

    Quiet beach
I like the beach without music
But when Egyptians came they used their speakers with very bad loud music
Their should be restrictions on spreading their own noisy music to keep the beach Quiet and classy!!

What could be improved: People smoke while having breakfast
Egyptians used their loud noise speakers

  • Rawash from Egypt – 2 June 2025 (9/10)

    – Amazing Location in the beautiful Somabay
    – Dinner and breakfast food quality is very good with many options
    – Staff are welcoming and trying to help
    – We were offered an upgrade at a discounted rate to make our stay more convenient

What could be improved: – Big part of the hotel is under renovation which limited the use of the hotel facilities for us
    – Managing the questions about the room number can be improved, we kept saying the room number for the staff 10 times a day. a bracelet can be a good option to avoid the inconvenience

  • John from Italy – 8 May 2025 (8/10)

Room & value for money – pricing in early May made it very affordable to get a beautiful sea-view suite on the 3rd floor.
Beach – nice, peaceful and beautiful.
Food – buffet breakfast and dinner were both very complete.

What could be improved: Resort vibe – definitely family and couple-oriented, not very suitable for singles or groups of friends. Not a problem at all, but just one thing to keep in mind.
Location – significantly more remote than – for example – options in Hurghada. It's the reason why I booked it, but just something to keep in mind if you plan on moving around the area/out of the resort often.
Cocktail selection – improvable, or perhaps can be made more visible to guests.

  • Hossam from Egypt – 29 April 2025 (9/10)

The location is heavenly. We feel in love with the bay and enjoyed our walks in the sand and swimming in the crystal clear water.
The hotel is huge and very impressive. You'll feel like you're royalty in a glamorous pharaonic palace.
The rooms have just been renovated and are very modern and well equipped. The bedding was very comfortable
We only had breakfast, the food was great and the buffet offered everything. The restaurant had a great view on the beach

What could be improved: The animation team's party every evening was loud, at a time where we wanted to enjoy peace and quiet in the balcony.
I was disappointed when I tried to upgrade my stay to half board, the price difference was exaggerated in my opinion

  • Wolfgang from Germany – 21 April 2025 (9/10)

Luxurious ambience, spacious and clean rooms, spectacular location.
The staff and service were extraordinary friendly.

  • Mahmoud from Egypt – 14 April 2025 (9/10)

The staff are super friendly ..

What could be improved: The construction updates is a little bit noisy.

  • Jessica from Sweden – 6 March 2025 (8/10)

Wonderful. Clean, extremely comfortable beds, friendly staff. Due to renovation the facilities like gym and lobby are limited. Fantastic beach. Boat tours/ snorkeling trip overpriced in the area but easy to book from other organizers through booking.com and no problem with transport to Hurghada if needed. Low season and not very many restaurants open but enough.
    Good variety at breakfast.
