Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be honest with you – when I first pulled up to this ground-floor apartment in Sholan 1, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But honestly? Sometimes the simple spots surprise you the most. This little one-bedroom unit sits right in the heart of El Gouna’s residential area, and there’s something refreshing about staying where you actually feel like you’re living in the town rather than just visiting it.
The thing about El Gouna is that it’s got this whole planned community vibe going on – sort of like someone took a European resort town and dropped it along the Red Sea coast. Sholan 1 is one of those quieter neighborhoods where you’ll hear the call to prayer in the early morning (which I actually found pretty peaceful), but you’re still close enough to walk to the main lagoons and marina areas. The ground floor setup is perfect if you’re tired of hotel elevators and want to just walk straight out your door. Plus, you get this tiny patio area where you can sit with your morning coffee and watch the local cats do their thing – and trust me, El Gouna has some very confident cats.
What really got me about this place was how it felt authentic without trying too hard. The bedroom’s got decent AC (crucial in Hurghada’s heat), and the little kitchen area means you can grab groceries from the local market and actually cook something instead of eating resort food every night. I mean, the restaurants in El Gouna are great, but sometimes you just want to make your own breakfast, you know? The whole setup reminds me of those European holiday apartments, but with that distinctly Egyptian charm – colorful tiles, solid furniture that’s clearly built to last, none of that flimsy hotel stuff. The bathroom’s compact but functional, and honestly, the water pressure was better than some fancy hotels I’ve stayed at.
Location-wise, you’re maybe a 10-minute walk from the main downtown area where all the shops and restaurants cluster around the lagoons. It’s far enough that you’re not dealing with tourist crowds right outside your window, but close enough that you can easily wander over for dinner or hit up Abu Tig Marina when you want to feel fancy. The whole El Gouna setup is pretty walkable, though renting one of those golf carts everyone drives around town is actually kind of fun if you want to explore the outer areas or just feel like being lazy.
I should mention – this isn’t the place if you need daily housekeeping or a concierge desk. It’s more like having your own little temporary home base while you explore the Red Sea coast. Perfect for people who want to experience El Gouna like a local rather than a tourist, and honestly, at this price point in this area, it’s pretty hard to beat. Just don’t expect luxury amenities – expect something real and comfortable where you can actually relax.
