Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Soma Breeze in Soma Bay, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But man, was I wrong. This little apartment-style spot (I stayed in SB 01A04, unit 4) completely changed my mind about what a mid-range hotel can offer along Egypt’s Red Sea coast.

The thing that hits you immediately is the view – and I mean, you’re getting both sea and golf course from most rooms, which is honestly pretty rare unless you’re dropping serious cash at the big resorts down the coast toward Hurghada proper. The balcony became my morning coffee spot, watching golfers tee off while the Red Sea sparkles in the background. It’s about a 45-minute drive south of Hurghada’s main hotel strip, which actually works in your favor because Soma Bay feels way more relaxed and less touristy. The whole area has this upscale resort community vibe – you know, manicured but not overdone.

What really surprised me was how well-maintained everything felt for a 3-star property. The apartment setup means you get a proper kitchenette (actually useful, not just a mini-fridge and microwave), and the air conditioning works like a dream – crucial during those scorching summer months when temperatures hit 40°C. The staff genuinely seemed to care about getting things right, which you can’t always count on. Check-in was smooth, none of that “your room isn’t ready yet” nonsense even though I arrived early. Parking’s easy and free, by the way – just pull up right outside the building.

Here’s what locals won’t tell you but I figured out: the best snorkeling spots are actually a short walk north along the beach from the main Soma Bay hotels, not where everyone clusters near the big resorts. The coral’s healthier and you’ll see way more fish. Also, if you’re planning to hit the golf course (and you should – it’s designed by Gary Player), book your tee times for early morning or late afternoon. Midday golf in Egypt is basically a form of self-torture.

The area gets pretty quiet after sunset since it’s more residential than party-central Hurghada, which I personally loved. You can hear the waves from your room at night, and there’s something really peaceful about falling asleep to that sound instead of poolside music and drunk tourists. If you want nightlife, you’ll need to drive into Hurghada proper, but honestly? After a day of sun and sea, I was perfectly content with a cold Stella beer on the balcony watching the golf course sprinklers come on at dusk.

That 9.3 rating isn’t inflated – this place delivers way above its star rating. It’s not luxury, but it’s comfortable, clean, and in a really sweet spot that feels more authentic than the all-inclusive mega-resorts. Perfect for couples or anyone who wants to experience the Red Sea without the crowds and chaos of central Hurghada.
