Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places along the Red Sea coast, but this Grand Cabana in Somabay honestly surprised me. You know what struck me first? The silence when you step out onto that terrace in the morning – I mean, you’re literally minutes from everything but it doesn’t feel chaotic like some of the busier Hurghada spots further north. The whole Somabay development sits on this peninsula that juts out into the sea, so you get these incredible views without the typical resort madness.

The cabana itself is actually pretty spacious – two proper bedrooms, which is rare to find in this area without paying resort prices. The living area opens right onto a private outdoor space where you can actually see the water through the palm trees. What I really appreciated (and this might sound small) was that the AC worked perfectly and quietly. You’d be amazed how many places along this coast have units that sound like helicopters landing. The kitchen’s got everything you need if you want to grab supplies from the Mesca village market – it’s about a five-minute walk and the vendors there are way more relaxed than the tourist-heavy spots. Plus, honestly, making Turkish coffee on your own terrace while watching the sun come up over the Red Sea? That’s worth the trip alone.

Here’s the thing about the location that really works – you’re close enough to the main Somabay facilities that you can walk to the beach or pools without planning your whole day around it, but far enough that you’re not dealing with the poolside music and crowds when you want some peace. The path to the sea takes maybe three minutes, and there’s this little stretch of beach that’s usually empty in the early morning hours. The water’s that impossible turquoise color that looks fake in photos but is somehow even better in person. I spent most afternoons just floating around, watching the kite surfers further out – Somabay’s actually become quite the spot for that, though the wind picks up more in the winter months. The resort’s dive center is solid too if you’re into that (the house reef’s nothing special, but they’ll take you to some incredible sites about twenty minutes out by boat). What really sealed it for me was the genuine quiet at night – just the sound of waves and maybe some distant music from the main resort areas, but nothing that keeps you awake. Check-in was smooth, parking’s right there, and the whole place just feels like someone’s well-kept vacation home rather than a hotel room. It’s the kind of spot where you actually unwind instead of just taking photos to prove you were somewhere nice.
