Somabay-Mesca – Relaxing Ground Floor

You know what really surprised me about Somabay’s Mesca property? It’s actually got this laid-back vibe that you don’t always find in Red Sea resorts. I stayed in unit 307A – ground floor, which honestly turned out to be perfect because you can just walk straight out to the complex without dealing with elevators or stairs when you’re loaded down with beach gear.

The whole Soma Bay area is about 45 minutes south of Hurghada proper, and I mean, once you’re there you really feel like you’ve escaped the chaos of the main tourist strip. Mesca sits right on this pristine stretch of coastline where the water is ridiculously clear – like, you can see the coral formations from the shore kind of clear. The ground floor setup means you’re basically steps away from everything, but here’s the thing – it’s quiet. Way quieter than I expected for a beachfront spot. Maybe it’s because the complex is designed with these low-rise buildings that don’t create wind tunnels, or maybe we just got lucky with respectful neighbors, but either way, you can actually hear the waves at night.

What I really appreciated was how they’ve kept things simple without making it feel cheap. The chalet itself is clean and functional – definitely feels like a 3-star place, but honestly, when you’re spending most of your time on that incredible beach or snorkeling around the nearby reefs, you don’t need marble countertops. The kitchenette is actually useful (rare for hotel accommodations), and there’s this little outdoor space where you can have your morning coffee before the day heats up. Speaking of heat – if you’re going between June and September, just know it gets seriously hot, but the sea breeze helps more than you’d think. I was there in April and the weather was absolutely perfect.

The snorkeling here is legitimately some of the best I’ve experienced along Egypt’s coast. There’s this house reef that’s maybe a 10-minute walk down the beach where you’ll see more fish in an hour than most people see in a week at other Red Sea spots. And if you’re into diving, the boat operators who work out of Soma Bay know the area really well – they’ll take you to sites that the Hurghada crowds never see. Parking wasn’t an issue at all if you rent a car (which I’d recommend for getting to nearby restaurants), and the whole check-in process was refreshingly straightforward. No long speeches about timeshare opportunities or mandatory resort fees – just keys and directions to your unit. That perfect 10 rating makes sense when you consider what you’re getting for the price point and location.

  I like the hosts welcomeness, the cleanliness.. everything were new. Felt like home.
