Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Sunrise Mamlouk Palace Resort – you know how it is with these big resort names, they all start to sound the same. But driving down that stretch of the Hurghada-Safaga road, about twenty minutes south of Hurghada’s main hustle, something felt different. The place actually lives up to its name; I mean, the sunrise views from the east-facing rooms are genuinely spectacular, not just tourist brochure spectacular.

What struck me first was how they’ve managed to keep that authentic Egyptian palace vibe without it feeling like a theme park. The lobby has these gorgeous mashrabiya screens and the kind of marble work you’d expect from a proper 5-star place, but it doesn’t feel stuffy or overdone. The staff genuinely seems to know what they’re doing too – check-in was smooth even during what looked like a busy period, and they actually remembered my name throughout the stay (which, let’s be honest, doesn’t always happen at these larger resorts). The rooms are spacious, and if you can swing it, definitely go for one of the sea-view suites. The Red Sea literally stretches out endlessly in front of you, and the coral reefs are close enough that you can snorkel right off the beach – no boat trips required.

The food situation is actually impressive, which surprises me because resort dining can be hit or miss. Their main restaurant does a solid job with both international dishes and Egyptian specialties, and the poolside grill serves up some of the best grilled fish I’ve had along this coast. Speaking of the pool area, it gets busy around mid-morning when families start claiming spots, but if you’re an early riser like me, you’ll have it practically to yourself. The beach is where this place really shines though – it’s not overcrowded like some of the properties closer to Hurghada center, and the house reef is genuinely stunning. I saw more colorful fish in three days here than I did during a week-long diving trip in Sharm last year. The only minor downside is that the WiFi can be spotty in some of the rooms furthest from the main building, but honestly, maybe that’s not such a bad thing when you’re trying to disconnect. With a 9.3 rating, this place has clearly figured out how to balance luxury with that laid-back Red Sea vibe, and after staying here, I get why people keep coming back.

  The hotel and the staff is great. You can use the amenities of the other Sunrise hotels next to this one, which is great value for the money. The food in the main restaurant was better in our opinion than in the a la carte restaurants. The drinks are the best in the lobby bar.
