Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of Red Sea resorts over the years, but Sunrise Royal Makadi honestly caught me off guard in the best way possible. You know how sometimes a place looks great in photos but then you arrive and… well, reality hits? This wasn’t one of those times. The moment you pull up that long driveway off the Safaga-Hurghada road – and I mean, it’s a proper entrance that makes you feel like you’re going somewhere special – you get why this place earned its 9.3 rating.

What really struck me was how they’ve managed to feel genuinely luxurious without that stuffy, don’t-touch-anything vibe you get at some five-star places. The lobby’s got these soaring ceilings and marble everywhere, sure, but the staff actually smiles when they see you coming instead of looking like they’re calculating your net worth. Check-in was smooth as butter, even during what the concierge told me was their busy season (apparently March through May gets pretty packed). The grounds are massive – I mean, seriously, pack comfortable walking shoes because it’s a good ten-minute stroll from some rooms to the main pool area. But honestly? That’s part of the charm. You’ve got space to breathe, and even when the resort’s full, it never feels crowded.

Here’s the thing about Makadi Bay that a lot of people don’t realize until they get here – it’s actually quieter and more refined than Hurghada proper. You’re about 30 kilometers south of all that downtown chaos, which means you get the gorgeous Red Sea diving and snorkeling (the house reef is actually decent, though not spectacular) without the constant buzz of jet skis and party boats. The beach here slopes gently into some of the clearest water I’ve seen along this coast, and the resort’s done a nice job of keeping it clean without being obsessive about it. I spent most mornings walking along the shoreline with my coffee – the resort makes genuinely good coffee, by the way, not that watery stuff you sometimes get at all-inclusives – watching the fishing boats head out from the small harbor you can see in the distance. The pools are probably the real star though. There’s this main infinity pool that seems to go on forever, and the water temperature’s perfect even in winter months. Actually, if I’m being completely honest, the only minor complaint I’d have is that the poolside service can get a bit slow during peak hours around 2 PM, but hey, you’re on vacation anyway, right? What really sold me on this place was sitting on my balcony that first evening, watching the sun set over the desert hills behind the resort while listening to the gentle lap of waves below. It’s one of those moments that reminds you why you travel in the first place.

  The staff were amazing, specially the receptionists who welcomed us warmly and kept following up with us to make sure we are enjoying our stay, and the waiters and chefs who were keen on making us satisfied with the food and they even delivered us special stuff upon our requests.
  They offer a lot of shows and activities to keep the guests entertained (old and children).
  The beach is very nice, sandy and the water is clear and good for snorkeling.
