Look, I’ll be straight with you about Sweet Home Flat 1 – the name is a bit quirky (and that “Last Check in 12 Am” part is basically telling you they’re not running a 24-hour front desk), but honestly? This place surprised me in the best way possible. It’s tucked away in the El Mustschafa El Aam area, which I know sounds intimidating if you don’t know Hurghada, but it’s actually one of those neighborhoods where you get a real feel for how locals live. You’re not stuck in some sterile tourist bubble here.

The building itself – Haus Lotfy El Halak – has that slightly weathered charm you find all over the Red Sea coast. I mean, it’s not going to win any architecture awards, but there’s something authentic about staying somewhere that feels lived-in rather than polished to death. The flat has this homey vibe that actually lives up to the “Sweet Home” name, with decent-sized rooms and – here’s what I really appreciated – proper Egyptian tiles that keep things cool even when it’s blazing outside. The AC works (thank god), though it’s one of those units that sounds like it’s working really hard to keep up, you know? But it gets the job done. What really sold me was the little balcony where you can actually sit with your morning coffee and watch the neighborhood wake up. There’s this great morning ritual where the local bread guy comes around on his bicycle, and honestly, grabbing fresh baladi bread from him became the highlight of my mornings.

Now, let’s talk location – you’re about a 10-minute walk from the main tourist strip, which is perfect because you can easily get to the beaches and restaurants when you want that scene, but you’re far enough away that you’re not dealing with the constant noise and chaos. The Red Sea is right there, obviously, and while this isn’t a beachfront property, you’ll find some of the less crowded stretches of sand just a short walk away. I actually preferred these spots to the packed hotel beaches anyway. The 7.6 rating makes sense to me – it’s not luxury, but it delivers exactly what it promises. The host was pretty responsive when I had questions, though definitely confirm your check-in time because that midnight cutoff is real. Also, and this is important, the water pressure in the shower is surprisingly good – I’ve stayed in much fancier places in Egypt where you’re basically misting yourself clean, so that was a pleasant surprise. If you’re looking for something authentic without breaking the bank, and you don’t need someone holding your hand through every tourist experience, Sweet Home Flat 1 is actually a solid choice for exploring Hurghada like a person rather than a walking wallet.

  The place is fantastic. You have your private roofterrace where you can enjoy the sunbeds, even in the night. The bedsheets were clean. Bring your own towels because they don't have. The housekeeper Bahaa will do anything for you to help, like Maher, the friendly owner
  
  What could be improved: The whole place really has to been renovated. But the price was so small I wouldn't complain about anything. After renovating they could ask double price I would say.

  In front of the building, there is public transportation to take you everywhere, the nearest beach is a 7-minute walk, called Geisum, the entrance is 50 L.E and it's very liberal. Mr. Bahaa is very helpful, but I had to ask for the air conditioner remote a few times, other than that this place is highly recommended, great value for a relatively low price and definitely I'll rent it again.

  The apartment has an amazing patio. It also has a very good location. The host also did well with accommodating for our late arrivals.

  What could be improved: Booked it as I was near the beaches. However, we didn't realise that you had to be in a hotel with beach access to enjoy the beach, this hostel doesn't have access so if you stay here, don't expect to see the beach.
