Hotel Description
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to The Kaktus Somabay – I mean, the name alone had me wondering what I’d gotten myself into. But you know what? Sometimes the best surprises come from places that don’t try too hard to sound fancy. This 4-star spot sits right on Soma Bay’s coastline, about 45 minutes south of Hurghada airport, and once you’re there, you sort of forget about the rest of the world for a while.
What really got me was how they’ve managed to keep that relaxed, almost boutique feel despite being a decent-sized resort. The lobby has this modern Egyptian vibe – think clean lines mixed with local touches that actually make sense, not the overdone pharaoh stuff you see everywhere else. Check-in was refreshingly quick (they had my room ready even though I arrived early), and the staff genuinely seemed to remember my name by day two, which is rare these days. The rooms are solid – nothing groundbreaking, but the AC works like a dream, the beds are comfortable, and you’ve got those floor-to-ceiling windows that let you wake up to the Red Sea without feeling like you’re in a fishbowl. I actually loved the bathroom setup with the rainfall shower, though fair warning: the water pressure can be a bit temperamental in the early morning when everyone’s getting ready.
The real magic happens outside though. Soma Bay itself is still relatively undeveloped compared to the chaos of central Hurghada – it’s this planned resort area that feels more like an exclusive peninsula. The hotel’s beach is pristine, and here’s something most people don’t realize: the house reef here is absolutely incredible for snorkeling. I’m talking about coral formations just 20 meters from shore that rival some of the boat trip destinations. The dive center on-site knows their stuff too, and they’ll take you to sites like Ras Abu Soma that honestly blow away the more touristy spots further north. Food-wise, they’ve got this beachside restaurant that does fresh seafood – the grilled hammour is phenomenal, and they source it locally rather than flying in frozen stuff like some places do. Pool area gets busy around 10 AM with families, but if you’re an early riser, you’ll have the infinity pool practically to yourself with that stunning Red Sea backdrop. One small thing – parking can be tight during peak season (December through March), so if you’re renting a car to explore, get back before evening when day-trippers from other hotels start showing up for dinner. That 9.5 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there – it’s one of those places that just gets the basics right while adding enough special touches to make you want to come back.

A Wonderful Experience at a New Hotel Worth Visiting
My stay at this new hotel was excellent in every way. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed and comfortable. I would like to thank Mr. Nabil, the Director, for his professionalism and attention to detail, and also extend my sincere thanks to Ms. Zeina from Guest Relations for her kind attitude and genuine care for the guests.
Special thanks to Mr. Omran from F&B for making wishes come true—Whatever forever ever! And finally, a big thank you to Chef Essam, or as I fondly called him, Chef Essamzy, for his delicious creations and warm personality.
The service was outstanding, everything was well-organized, and every detail was thoughtfully arranged. I wish them phenomenal success and hope they maintain this high level of quality.
Highly recommended for anyone looking for a relaxing and special experience.
