You know what hits you first at The Oberoi in Sahl Hasheesh? It’s actually the silence – and I mean that in the best possible way. This place sits about 20 minutes south of Hurghada’s chaos, and honestly, it feels like you’ve stepped into a completely different Egypt. The resort hugs this pristine stretch of Red Sea coastline where the water is so clear you can spot parrotfish from the shore, and the coral reef is literally a few fin kicks from the beach.

I’ve stayed at plenty of Red Sea resorts, but The Oberoi does something different. The architecture has this understated elegance – think modern lines mixed with subtle Middle Eastern touches, nothing too flashy or theme-park-ish like some of the mega-resorts up the coast. The rooms are spacious (even the standard ones), and every single one faces the sea, which is sort of a big deal when you’re paying five-star prices. The marble bathrooms are gorgeous, sure, but what I really appreciated was the attention to details like blackout curtains that actually work and air conditioning that doesn’t sound like a jet engine. The staff genuinely seems to care about getting things right – my room was ready early without me even asking, and the housekeeping team remembered I preferred extra pillows after just one night.

The food scene here is honestly impressive for a resort. The main restaurant does this Mediterranean-meets-Middle Eastern thing that works really well, and their seafood is fresh – probably because they’re working with local fishermen from the area. I mean, you’re not going to find street food authenticity, but for resort dining, it’s solid. The infinity pool gets busy around 10 AM, but if you’re an early riser, you’ll have it mostly to yourself with just the sound of waves and maybe some Egyptian geese wandering around the grounds. The spa is tucked away in this quiet corner and actually lives up to the hype – I usually skip resort spas, but their traditional hammam treatment was worth it. What really sets this place apart though is the diving and snorkeling. Sahl Hasheesh has some of the most pristine coral in the Red Sea, and the resort’s dive center knows all the good spots. Even if you just snorkel off the beach, you’ll see more marine life than at most other Red Sea destinations. It’s pricey, no question about it, but The Oberoi delivers on that 9.3 rating by actually understanding what luxury travelers want – beautiful surroundings, genuine service, and the kind of peaceful atmosphere that makes you forget to check your phone for hours at a time.

  Very nice rooms. Great swimming pool and easy access to the house reef for great snorkelling. The resort is very quiet most of the time. The staff is really kind and helpful. One of the highlight is the quality of the food. The chef Papu was amazing, checking in at every meal to ask if everything was alright and always happy to accommodate our requests! Outstanding!
