You know what caught me off guard about Veranda Sahl Hasheesh? It’s technically a 3-star place, but honestly, it punches way above its weight class. I mean, when you’re driving down from Hurghada airport (about 20 minutes south), you pass all these massive resort complexes, and then you hit this spot in the Sahl Hasheesh area – it’s got this more intimate vibe that the bigger places just can’t match.

The thing about this part of the Red Sea coast is that it’s actually less crowded than central Hurghada, which is a huge plus if you’ve been to Egypt before and remember how packed some of those beaches can get. Veranda sits right where you can walk to that gorgeous Sahl Hasheesh beach – the kind with powder-soft sand that doesn’t burn your feet even in the afternoon heat. The staff here genuinely seem to care about getting things right, and I noticed they remember your name after like, day two, which is rare these days. Check-in was smooth (they had cold towels and fresh juice waiting), and the lobby has this airy feel with local touches that don’t feel forced or touristy.

What really won me over was the attention to details that matter when you’re actually living somewhere for a week. The rooms have decent AC that doesn’t sound like a jet engine, there’s always hot water (trust me, this isn’t guaranteed everywhere in Egypt), and the balconies – well, most of them anyway – give you either garden views or glimpses of the sea depending on where you end up. The restaurant does a solid job with both international stuff and local Egyptian dishes, though honestly, the mahshi they serve on Thursday nights is better than what I’ve had at some 5-star places in Cairo. Pool area gets busy around 10 AM when families start claiming chairs, but early morning or late afternoon it’s perfect for actual swimming rather than just posing for photos.

If you’re planning to explore beyond the resort, the Sahl Hasheesh marina is walkable – maybe 15 minutes – and it’s got some decent restaurants and shops that aren’t completely tourist-trap priced. The hotel can arrange transfers into Hurghada proper if you want the full souk experience, but honestly, this area has enough going on that you might not feel the need. Just pack reef shoes if you’re planning to snorkel – the coral here is incredible but it’s sharp as anything, and I learned that the hard way on day three.
