You know what surprised me about Y 140? It’s not your typical El Gouna property, and I mean that in the best way possible. Most people think of El Gouna as this upscale resort town with pristine lagoons and yacht clubs – which it absolutely is – but this place sits right at the entrance, almost like it’s keeping watch over everything. It’s technically a 3-star, but honestly, with that heated private pool and the way they’ve set everything up, it punches way above its weight class.

The heated pool thing is actually genius, especially if you’re visiting during those winter months when even Egypt can get surprisingly chilly in the evenings. I’ve stayed at places where the pool looks amazing but you can’t use it half the time because it’s freezing – not an issue here. The golf element is interesting too because you’re literally a stone’s throw from some of the best courses on the Red Sea coast, and the staff actually knows which ones are worth your time (hint: it’s not always the most expensive ones). What really got me was how quiet it stays despite being right at the entrance. You’d think there’d be constant traffic noise, but the way it’s positioned, you get this perfect balance of accessibility without the chaos. I could walk to the main El Gouna areas easily, but when I wanted to retreat, it felt properly secluded.

The whole vibe here is sort of refreshingly unpretentious – like someone built a really nice place to stay without trying to reinvent hospitality or charge you for every little thing. Check-in was smooth, parking is actually available (which can be a nightmare in some parts of El Gouna), and the staff has that genuine Egyptian hospitality thing down pat. They’ll tell you which restaurants are tourist traps and which ones the locals actually eat at. That 8.9 rating makes perfect sense to me because it’s one of those places that just works. It’s not trying to be the fanciest spot in town, but everything they do, they do well. Plus, being at the entrance means you can easily explore both El Gouna’s lagoons and venture out to Hurghada proper without feeling like you’re committing to a major expedition either way. If you’re looking for something that feels more like a well-appointed home base than a resort experience, this hits the sweet spot.
